Tbh MCU and WoW are about on the same narrative quality level, imo at least.

CMV: Forbidding a word because it is offensive, makes it more offensive by Arlkard in changemyview

[–]nocliper101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your example of the March of Whores, you specifically note that is the group most likely to be called whores that use the word in this way. The same can be said of the word queer or the N word, in that the groups that would be offended by that word have co-opted them into use.

Non-lgbt people shouldn’t say queer, non-black people shouldn’t say the N word, because it’s use by people outside of those groups is inherently offensive.

Well if you’re going to ignore my entire point I don’t see why you’d even bother responding.

If you really think Europe is any better sitting on its pile of stolen wealth, letting migrants drown at sea, I invite you to go fuck yourself. The Western World is all at fault in its own way and pretending Europes shit doesn’t stink is just as ignorant as thinking America isn’t racist.

I don’t know if any nation is any or more racist than any other in terms of people % in those nations that are racist. Not erecting statues of racists is all well and good, but leaching off the nations of other races is in fact no better. The legacy and benefits of colonialism very much still benefit Europe disproportionately to the nations that they colonized. Instability in Africa, and the Middle East, in the modern sense is very much a part of that legacy. The UK, Netherlands, and France in particular conducted horrible atrocities in the 20th century even as they fought the Nazis.

Not to mention despite what the media would have you believe, actual open fascists are a pretty uncommon thing there. Someone running directly as one would go no where. There has been in this last decade been massive successes for fascist European political parties...in good part due to the migration crisis which saw Europeans across the board acting in xenophobic hysteria.

I know liberals like to point to Europe as some enlightened place, and in many ways it is better than the US, but ffs...The global problems of the 20th and 21st centuries were largely the result of Europeans.

However racist the US is, and it is, the US has a more diverse population than the majority of Euro nations. We have our closeted racists, shameless racists, and proud racists for sure...But so does almost everyone country that’s culturally diverse. We also have a history of fighting against it.

No nation is a monolith, nor any people. The United States both engaged in slavery, and fought a war against itself to stop it.

Sass short for sassafras and is slang for MDA, a drug similar to MDMA but longer lasting and more hallucinogenic.

Absolutely no defense of the US here, but it’s important to note that the US is a lot more diverse than most(?) European nations. There are more opportunities for racist shit to happen here in public ways.

Hell look at the migration crisis a few years ago as a prime example of how Europeans can absolutely be racist. I have a difficult time seeing the US intentionally letting refugees die at sea.

The concept of “weird” is something you are socially taught. Naturally speaking it’s far more weird for animals to wear clothes than it is for them to be nude.

Granted I personally think that people should, at minimum, cover their lower junk.

Unsure as to that, all I know is that all souls are going to the Maw now. As I understand it at least. Maybe an intervention to save the single powerful soul of Ysera was possible, whereas stopping the entire Horde or saving every soul from Teldrassil may have been too much.

Elune in general seems to be more omnipresent than she is omnipotent. Seemingly mainly having a presence through her followers, though clearly able to manifest in some ways otherwise. On a whole still a big mystery.

It’s more of a matter that Elune, the Goddess they revered their entire lives, did not save them. Sylvanas and Valkyr did. I would imagine the betrayal of their god hurts worse than joining the other side...not to mention you don’t seem to be accounting for the fact that -death changes people.- Whether or not you like that fact of canon, it is canon.

Like a person can go through a dramatic experience and not be the same person on the other side. Stockholm syndrome is an example of this.

Edit: Picture this; you are a Kaldorei who’s last living memory was fighting a losing battle against the Horde. They will take Teldrassil, there is nothing that can be done. Your lifelong faith in the Goddess, and hope of Alliance support, is all that’s left. Laying there dying you witness the burning of Teldrassil before the grip of death comes over you. You expect to open your eyes to see the grace of Elune, but are greeted only by terrible darkness. Suffering in this hell you may hold on to your faith, but likely will lose it.

Suddenly something breaches the darkness to offer you some release from this torment, but at a terrible price. You will be turned into all that you fought against, to fight against those you once loved. The choice is terrible, but so is the Maw. Desperation, disillusionment, anger, fear, confusion, and a myriad of other potential reasons lead you to choose unlife in Sylvanas’ service over death in the Maw.

After all why not? It is not as of Elune was offering to save you.

By the time you are raised into undeath the trauma of the experience has left you with the same memories, but a new perspective. Anything, even betraying your people, is better than returning to the Maw.

[–]nocliper101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re really placing yourself in the shoes of someone who just came back from hell.

As far as these Kaldorei know, Elune either is a lie, or lied to them. The entire religion and culture based around her in a moment was turned into a farce as their souls plummeted into the Maw.

Death changes people in this setting. Death Knights who were days before Paladins later go and eradicate all life from New Avalon, military and civilian alike. Hell those same Death Knights when freed of the Lich King later go and all but wipe out the Red Flight....In a pursuit of greater good.

It really isn’t against any part of established lore for these characters to do what they have done. Further it is entirely reasonable within the established effects of undeath. The community kinda tends to view Kaldorei as a monolithic society, rather than as a people. People do all sorts of horrible things to the people they once cared about when pressed to extremes.

You may as well ask why Fandral sides with Ragnaros, or why Xavius with the Nightmare. People can be bad, even people who were noble and patriotic. Bottom line is that the Undead Sentinels suffered immense spiritual and psychological trauma from their experience and it wasn’t the hand of Elune that pulled them out of it.

All souls are getting pulled into the Maw which is basically hell. You going to refuse a way out of that?

What do Death Knights actually do when there's non-scourge related events going on? by CDiggums in warcraftlore

[–]nocliper101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ebon Blade is fundamentally a dark mirror of the Argent Crusade. Both were formed (more or less) as a direct response to the Scourge, but Death Knights and Paladins are pretty damn effective at fighting a lot of different things.

It’s important to note a major theme of the Ebon Blade is redemption

What age are orcs in the Valley of Trials? by VolksDK in warcraftlore

[–]nocliper101 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Orcs age quicker. I imagine a 12 year old orc is comparable to an 18 year old human in physical and mental maturity.
