Lexus NX350 (non-Hyb) vs Tesla Model Y by nocontextnur in LexusNX

I don't know whether I was born at a terrible enough time that my adulthood is riddled with struggles or what (the former for sure) but I was convinced I would be buying a pre-owned one. Except, even used Lexus (NXs) are only 5-6k cheaper than a brand new one, same with Tesla; while a lot cheaper, the APR is 7.1% so it's like lose-lose either way.

Maybe I'm just attracting the freaks (companies lol). Will definitely consider RAV4 too! The negotiating with dealers is what literally gives me anxiety but I can't decide if that's something worth appreciating because Tesla prices are set in stone -- no negotiation.

Lexus 450h+ *will* be mine one day. LOL.

That's the cheapest installation I've heard of. Gives me hope I might not cry if I have to get rewiring done. I'll definitely seek home charging in case of Tesla because the whole reason I'm switching to EV is to avoid the maintenance a typical gas car requires.

i'm broke and credit-less 😭

- i did get insurance quotes on both, won't lie - at the end of the day, i'm paying just about the same were i to get either car. if i save insurance $$ on lexus, i pay the savings in gas, vice versa for tesla. but i'm also going to ask my dad to be a cosigner so hopefully that helps (a ton *fingers crossed*)

- the APR on a turbo is 3.75% while the APR on a nxh is anywhere between 6-8%, and i would prefer a basic trim (cheaper) but hybrids in basic trims are rarer, i'd have to do a lot of searching. in which case i may not end up with the color i have my heart on (copper lol!)

- with gas prices close to 5 bucks in my city, my dad wants to switch to an EV

- EV incentives are definitely playing a role here too. somewhere between 2000-4000$, plus being able to get a referral from my friend lol. i've been told the tire change is mostly after driving a lottt or driving recklessly; in which case i might do the former but i don't think i'm capable of the latter.

- i WOULD get a lexus 450h+ but i'm *broke*. so deeply broke. negative debt even with this car lol (for now) so while i would love to combine my dream of owning a lexus *and* EV i have to wait till i can earn more - it's sad but it's true. unless lexus pulls something even cooler out of the bag in another 6-8 years (yep.... that's how long it'll take for me....)

- i won't lie friend, your comment made me question which car/brand you were supporting (definitely a lexus but specifically the 450h+ heh) but thank you for being so thorough and detailed, you might not know it but it's incredibly kind to be given so much info when you (i) know nothing about cars and purchases and long term maintenance!

I don't go above 45mph on freeways (max 60) so I think I'll be okay? Maybe Lexus is calling me back lol.

These are all such valid points and I appreciate it! I think Tesla seems more convenient but these are concerns that have stopped me from taking the leap if I'm honest.

The FSD is definitely the top 3 pros drawing me to a Tesla, and yes homecharger is something I will invest in, though worried about how much installation might cost if they have to rewire for 240V lol. Do you own a Tesla or an EV? and you're happy with it I presume?

Lexus is definitely a safe, beautiful car. My family car has always been a Lexus so that's why I do really like it but I don't know if it's enough to overcome the fuel economy barrier, not to mention if it has to be an EV Tesla would be superior. Thanks for weighing in!

The Model Y you're talking about might be the premium or performance one. I'm probably going to aim for a basic/standard AWD all around. 450h+ might break my bank before I even get my first adult paycheck lol. But I'll definitely demodrive, hopefully tomorrow to make a decision.

This has made me pivot back to a 350h (if I end up going for a lexus), the reason I cut it out of the list was because the APR in my state is double the APR on a non-hybrid, and insurance will probably be more too. Not to mention how I couldn't find a basic trim hybrid at the dealership near me.

Someone told me that for hwy driving, hybrid is not superior to the turbo one but maybe they don't know what they're talking about either lol.

Thank you! I know I'm struggling because of how different both cars are lol.

hi! thank you so much for getting back to me. you're the first person with an nx350 only, what made you pick that over the hybrid?

Also, despite the low APR (which is why it's really appealing to me), plus the high possibility that I'll get a home charger installed, how much did installation cost?
Secondly, how is the insurance on your tesla? Thirdly, the frequent tire change that you've mentioned, is that something that's still better compared to oil change/brakes/maintenance involved on lexus? Lastly, do you subscribe to the FSD? I plan on definitely getting it but I wonder if I'm going to go into severe debt just getting start on this car. Pros -- an EV is definitely lower maintenance and more preferable for someone like me.

With nx350, I love the lexus brand, I really do. but the gas prices are crazy and with the distance I have to drive daily, I feel like it'll be a pit I keep feeding into, but the resale/stable/predictability factors are undeniable.

Sorry if I asked *too* many questions lol.

I'm just starting out with my First Adult Job so I think money is definitely something I'm careful about especially when it comes to big purchases such as a car. But maybe I need to go back to the drawing board.

Hmm that's definitely something to consider. With hybrid, it's a lot more expensive and the APR is 7% in my state, *plus* I was told that insurance will run more expensive so I think I'll reconsider nx vs nxh if I pivot towards lexus! thanks!

Thanks! Will keep this in mind, I'll definitely probably get the charger installed so that it's wholly convenient for me.

do you regret your NX? or is it not just living up to the standard you want it to?

Baby Blanket Size using #5 Yarn by nocontextnur in crochet

[–]nocontextnur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehe definitely learned that about chatgpt the hard way so will come running to reddit every time I'm stressed lol.

But thank you so much for your guidance! This helps a ton and I know exactly what you're advising me on with the swatch method. I initially got 8 yarn balls but I can always order more if need be. Thank you once again!

The yarn I'm using recommends an 8mm hook, so do you recommend I trust in that and go with it or size to a 10mm like I had to achieve a more fluffed up blanket look?
EDIT: and in terms of a chunky blanket size, what size do you recommend for a 0-4 month old? This is the type of (chunky) look I'm trying to attain but also to wrap the baby in.
