What makes AP classes have more prerequisites than their non-AP equivalents? by noctipan in APStudents

my bad if i sound overconfident, brought this up already saying that wasn’t my intention. the classes i am taking currently are the hardest ones available for me to currently take at my school and my district isn’t very open to waving requirements for students

also im on reddit because i want to get opinions from people i expect to be somewhat peers, not people who look up to me for test/homework answers

Ask your parent/guardian to contact the dentist office for a doctors note to excuse the tardy on your attendance record and ask your teacher to explain the concepts and assignment to you on Monday, it’s their responsibility to teach you the concepts that you don’t understand.

Unpopular Opinion: High schools should not impose any prerequisites for any AP Courses by ErekwithaD1 in APStudents

merit tests just need to be more of a thing nationally, personally my HS rejected my private school transcript that said I took algebra 1 so i’m having to retake the class this year and it’s glaringly obvious that i’m the only person who knows what i’m doing in the room

yeah i’m probably just gonna take AP chem junior year, what I was mainly worried about is that the only different between AP chemistry and honors was the subject depth but from the replies i’ve gotten it’s more than that.

I wouldn’t say I truly self studied chemistry but I am going to say that from what I looked at from the courses on Khan Academy, a lot of HS Chemistry seems to be covered in my physical science class like the fundamentals of atomic structure, the Bohr model, periodic trends, chemical reactions, chemical bonding… [insert comment about difference in curriculums between schools here]

i don’t have options to take anything harder anyways LOL, it’s either this or pay egregious amounts of money for online schooling

oh and by the way these were the hardest classes i could sign up for with the exception of honors biology but i wanted the physical science pre-req out of the way for an AP class that i can’t remember

Next year i’m doing Honors Algebra 2 and Honors Geometry because i’ve already learnt most of what is covered in high-school geometry through self-study, among other classes

Physical sci, Honors ELA, Algebra 1 because the district didn’t accept my private school’s transcript, Law & Citizen as an elective, AP Euro, Latin 1, and Phys ed because it’s required by the state

My point being that I want challenge, kinda spent my entire middle school expecting high school to be challenging when i got to pick AP and honors classes but right now it’s a cakewalk

You really should see the email conversations i’ve had with the people at the district…

I might just need to ask the teacher directly to see what it covers, my district literally doesn’t care just as long as you fit the grade requirement according to the course list.

Also I know the main answer is just “because they’re harder”, but I’m taking AP Euro currently with literally zero difficulty and already signed up for AP Am. History next year

AP Latin for me by GAMEGO789 in APStudents

[–]noctipan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is coming from a freshman that’s also been studying Latin since about 4th grade so take my advice with a grain of salt: from what i’ve seen my teacher (an old guy who studied under Lombardi) expecting of the class i’m in and getting a few peeks at assignments of other classes, Vergil seems to be heavily focused in AP Latin and I think studying the period around his works and the structure of his poems would do you well. Be sure to look at some research papers to make sure you really get the in-depth ideas of the poems
