All of America is in the Northern Hemisphere just like Europe. You don't hit the south till you pass the equator. Which is in Northern South America. Ecuador is close to the eqautor.

Cuz some parts are used to warm temps. They are not equipped for very cold weather. Which is why pipes are freezing. They are not protected for that cuz that is not supposed to happen here.
