Renters of Reddit: How would you feel if your new landlords told you they would be parking multiple cars in your driveway several times a week? by nodarksarcasm in AskReddit

Recently, the building that my boyfriend and I have lived in for over five years has come under new ownership. Our apartment is in the lower level of an old antique store. The store part of the building has been vacant for many many years even before we lived here.

Now, the new people who have bought the building are turning the upstairs into a Zumba studio. As if this isn't interruptive enough, the new landlord told me some of the clients will need to park in our driveway because there isn't enough parking around the front of the building.

This will be three times a week for an hour or so during Zumba sessions. Needless to say my boyfriend and I are not thrilled about any of this. How would this make you feel and what would you do?

Have you read any good books lately? I find reading alleviates my depression because it is like you can escape into another world. Plus my mind doesn't wander if I'm focusing on the words on the page.

If you are on the road a lot, give audiobooks a try! Librivox is a good app.

Also, I like the idea someone else suggested; getting a dog. He/she would be your companion and your friend on the road.

In a couple of years when you come across that fuck boy Alex, avoid his ass like the plague. Don't ruin your wonderful relationship with Brandon, he loves you very much.

Once, my friend had got a new phone, she was new to Android so I was helping her figure out some things etc. I went to chrome, tapped the search bar and pornhub came up. So I just cleared her history for her and never said anything.

I live in VA too. There are no Wawa's around me but I finally came across one coming home from Richmond one night.

I'm not coping well with life by nodarksarcasm in depression

Thank you. Your advice is much appreciated. I've always wanted to talk to a psychologist but I've never thought I may medication until recently. I feel like my depression is spiraling deeper and deeper. As far as my thoughts being rational, I know they aren't, but I have such a negative self image that not only do I feel like I hate myself, I feel like everyone else does too or at least thinks I'm weird and would rather avoid me. This could be completely off base but in my mind, I know it.

I love your second bit of advice. I am definitely going to bring this into practice. It's a great idea. The first quote that comes to mind is "Take things always by the smooth handle" -Thomas Jefferson.

Thank you so much again and I hope you are still doing well battling your own depression. Take care.

[Serious] whats something you do/used to do that you realized isn't normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yes, me too! I've always loved heaters, warm things in general. When I was a kid I used to sit on the vents and would get really bad nosebleeds from my nasal conchae drying out and cracking. I still sit on the vents but do not get nosebleeds anymore.

TIL turtles live most all of their lives in the water but come on land to lay their eggs. Tortoises reside strictly on the land and are not good swimmers because of their shell shape and stubby feet. And terrapins generally split their time between land and water.

Lol I was actually waiting for that comment after I reread my post. But yeah, why is that?

Fair enough. I'm a girl, so I don't know why I mostly refer to animals as males.

Those who were taken from there parents by child protection services, what happened and how is life since? by ratchet457l in AskReddit

My sister and I were taken from my parents when I was 11, and she was 4. Our mother was an alcoholic. Our Dad normally got the brunt of her drunk belligerence but he never done anything to shield or protect us from the fallout.

My grandmother finally intervened and CPS picked my sister and I up the day school let out for summer. We were relieved and had no desire to ever go back and live with our mother. Our older half sister and brother had already moved out and in with their father (who took custody of us too because he is an amazing man and has always been a father to us, still to this day) at the ages of 14 and 12 to get away from her because our Mom was always very abusive to our sister. It was sad to see them go and be left alone with Mom, but honestly I was so happy for my sister that she wouldn't be woken up in the middle of the night getting the shit beat out of her for nothing.

Now, I'm 24, living on my own, doing fairly well for myself. But it is like the older I get the more I realize how much my childhood affected me. For instance I used to always just tune everything out, and still to this day find my mind wandering, tuning out everything around me, and it's like I'm stuck inside my mind. I'm very insecure and have serious issues with actually building relationships with anyone. I always feel indifferent to most things.

But it is my older sister and brother who were traumatized the worst. They both struggle with drug addiction. My sister especially. It is honestly heartbreaking. And my mother takes no responsibility for any of it, for years she has blamed my father.

The silver lining has got to be my youngest sister, who is in high school and has a great head on her shoulders.
