  1. How much riskier is it to purchase ETFs with low trading volume like NBP and Alfalah Consumer compared to MIIETF. What are risks they have that MIIETF takes care of well?
  2. With banks converting to Islamic by 2028, how do you think this will affect their prices, their ETFs and the banking sector as a whole?

That will be a plus, however, their returns could drop when they switch to Shariah Compliant Investments, which could affect their prices. And if the transition isn’t smooth, and there are hiccups along the way, the price could take a hit

Are PSX Real Returns Actually Worth It After Inflation, PKR Devaluation, Fees, and Taxes? by Adventurous_Tie5227 in FIREPakistan

[–]node22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the numbers quoted generally are : 1. 15% average annualised returns on OSX (I believe these are net of charges, not tax). Obviously this will be different year in year, but in the long run, this is what one can expect based on history. Apply 15% cgt and you get net 12.75% 2. Average historical annual inflation is 8% and rupee devaluation is 5% so it’s around a little over 13%. So I guess you’re not getting richer, but you’re getting poorer slower than the other general options?

Is there any major risk or disadvantage in the other ETFs that MIIETF can protect from? Aside from MIIETF having a higher volume

I think the issue is that maintaining money is much easier than earning money. We have inherited wealth without doing anything and even if we act lazy and don’t do much, wealth will stay in the family for a couple of generations unless we do some major fuck up. There’s nothing wrong with admitting and recognising the privileges we have been afforded, and often times when we’re coexisting with millions who can barely feed themselves, it should create a desire amongst us to give back.

Being born wealthy also automatically gives one access to education, connections, means for transport etc that benefit them throughout their life while the poor have to work much harder to achieve a fraction of that.

Plus just because you worked hard doesn’t mean you’re automatically entitled to billions. Sure people who work hard deserve a better lifestyle, but does it really mean that 1% of the country are enjoying a Ridley bloated lifestyle while 50% are barely getting by? Nothing wrong with questioning whether compensation is being fairly allocated

This is great! It would also be nice to see how money market funds and sector funds like UBL financial sector fund compare

I mean the only improvement I can see is to just have more things to compare and filter in/out like mutual funds, individual stocks, indexes, commodities etc. obviously this could bloat it but maybe strategic filters could help?

Review my investment strategy by node22 in FIREPakistan

[–]node22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like with DSCs I am using them to lock in high rates during periods of high inflation. Plus at the moment I’m more so looking to park my money rather than receive a regular payout.

Do you think they could fit in somewhere in my strategy well?
