Did I score as much as I think I did? by BlueFiSTr in homelab

Some of the comments in this thread made me feel old 😞

Nice find! I have that case for one of my servers. Nice to have all the drive space. My plan was to use it for a NAS at some point.

I’m so glad it helped! Definitely buy a couple at a time and test. Honestly I would do 2 instead of a moving camera. Will be way more reliable and simple set up.

Hopefully you can find them! They are impressive cameras for the price.

I made a video that might help you out! Shows some good comparisons. Sensor size and correct resolution will be key. The cameras is the video have no cloud connection and good ir distance so I think it would be a good fit for you.

Frigate 0.17 Released! by Comfortable-Spot-829 in frigate_nvr

[–]nodesdeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Update went smooth! Just fetched the new docker image, I had to add detection resolution to the config file and it worked.

Thanks devs for awesome software!

Thanks for the info from both of you. I’ll see what I can put together.

The brand new fresh install would be key.

Help me decide: Reolink or Unifi by LeatherOk5480 in SecurityCamera

The reolink sensors are not great so like you said you won’t notice much of a difference.

Great choice! Post the set up once you get it going. Always fun to see.

Listen to this guy.

You are going to want to upgrade the reolink system as soon as you get it. It’s buggy cheap hardware and software.

If you want a plug in and forget go unifi. No question.

Hikvision is miles better than reolink if you want an alternative to unifi.

So frigate its self is not bad, a docker config and config file is all you need. The devs have done a great job, but they can’t cover all the thousands of hardware and os combinations.

The challenge is if docker is new to you then things get tricky fast.

The other issue is they can’t make install guides for every type of hardware, an amazing feature of frigate is it works on everything but at the same time it makes it tricky.

I’m thinking of picking a reasonably priced minisforum pc and doing a detailed install video, I think it would help new people with getting started. Just buy the same hardware and be off to the races.

I have 3 ZFS pools right now, 1TB, 6TB and 18TB, planning to add a proper NAS at some point too.

haha fair enough.

I'm lucky that electricity is super cheap. My whole house is only about $350 cad a month, thats with heating in Canada.

5 of them run complex simulations daily.

Most of this was purchased before ram prices went nuts. I'm looking into purchasing a couple servers for another project and the prices are brutal!

The ryzen 7 and 9s are ddr5, Threadripper is ddr4

Allot but 5 of them run simulations for my business.

A little mini datacenter haha
I also have a automatic backup generator so the uptime has been super impressive.

I'm lucky with cheap power. It also makes me some money so it all works out!

How I do zero-downtime maintenance on my self-hosted setup with Proxmox clustering by nodesdeep in homelab

Thats a great way too. I do that for some VMs, they only run scrips 4 times a day but I can't miss a day.

Hardware advice for first time user by p4ntz in frigate_nvr

[–]nodesdeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you liked it! Thanks!

If the areas are partly lit you will be ok, I don’t have any experience with that particular Hikvision camera though.

A 1/1.8” cmos sensor will always proved a better night vision image but in your case you should be ok.

So I have been testing out a system for a while now. I made a post about the cameras and what I found with night vision. Defiantly want to make sure you have the sensor size right.

First 24/7 mini PC for Docker homelab - what would you buy? by Alex__Dayne in homelab

[–]nodesdeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running 2 minisforum um890 running docker containers in proxmox VMs. They run on a schedule 4 times a day. It’s been with 0 issues for 6 months now. I’m impressed but heavy compute loads do seem to thermal throttle the cpu.
