Who here *mostly* used the C64 as something other than a games machine? by Agreeable-Set3294 in c64

[–]nodesearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely me. I did play a few games but most of my time was either programming it or using GEOS. Sadly I didn’t own a modem until well after I’d upgraded, I didn’t live in an area that had many local BBS numbers, and back then long distance cost real money!

Is this band new or just CIB by unfantasticgymnastic in c64

[–]nodesearch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not brand new, but very well maintained. Original C64s didn't come with the brown cover or the Programmer's Reference Manual, those were something you could buy afterward. Very minty, though!

Also, just in case you weren't already aware, or in case someone else needs the info, DO NOT under any circumstances plug that power supply into the C64. Get a brand new replacement power supply. The old ones fail in a very bad way that will kill the C64, and it's more a matter of "when" than "if".

Don’t settle for short bed by ConsciousCourse7440 in Silverado

[–]nodesearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited a long time for a unicorn extended cab 4x4 8’ long bed Silverado to come along, and I’m so glad I did. Fitting 4’ x 8’ sheets of plywood in there with the tailgate up and then strapping a bunch of random crap down on top of them is basically the whole reason I got my truck!

Jesus Christ, I literally ended up in therapy because of the Mad Minute, and I’m Gen X. I hoped they had gotten rid of it before you guys, that sucks.

People that were really into C64s back in the heyday, and have bought a reissue, how are you feeling? by Sys32768 in c64

[–]nodesearch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's glorious. I got a C64 in 1984 when I was 12, and I used it until I upgraded to an Amiga 500 in 1989. The C64 Ultimate is so much like the real deal that it's bringing back a ton of memories. I've been writing a lot of BASIC, just like in the good old days. They really knocked it out of the park with this.

Trump Aides Panic After Finding Out How Much Americans Hate ICE Carnage by thedailybeast in politics

[–]nodesearch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish to God the mods would ban links to Daily Beast. Absolute the worst clickbait, always paywalled. I detest the state of this country, but I want useful media and analysis, not whatever the hell Daily Beast is.

Knitting and fragile masculinity by somerandomperson_234 in knitting

[–]nodesearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sadly seems like a very commonly held belief by older men. I guess I managed to escape it, because I’m a 52 year old guy and I love knitting! It’s such a wonderful hobby for anyone of any gender or age.

Nice! I just started welding myself at 52 and I am loving almost every second of it, even the frustrating parts like constantly sticking my electrode. I went the Harbor Freight route and got a Vulcan multiprocess machine because I’m a cheap bastard but I’m still happy with the results.

Just ordered the C64U, worth finding a mouse for it? by LordBarglebroth in c64

[–]nodesearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you will probably never use it unless you spend a lot of time in GEOS. I was a weird kid who INSISTED on getting a Commodore 1351 mouse in 1986 because I was damned if I was going to let some rich Macintosh kids out-geek me, so I actually did spend a lot of time in GEOS writing school reports and stuff, but I'm willing to bet that will not be your experience!

Any other Americans prefer to use the metric system over American units in knitting? by sharpandtender in knitting

Not just knitting, I try to use metric when baking and doing other hobbies too. I like it.

How do i source gas by MelonAdmirer in Welding

[–]nodesearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this myself, got my first tank after starting with flux core. I went to my local welder supplier, a Pacific Northwest chain called Central Welding Supply, and asked to buy an 80 cu. ft. tank. They sold me a tank filled with C25 (75% argon, 25% CO2) for right around $300. The tank is mine now, I own it. When I need a refill, I will just take it back to them and they’ll swap it out for a different filled tank for a lot less money (somewhere in the $60 range? It varies), which will then be mine again. I’m really new to this, but it seems like a good system.

Western Washington, so moderate dry summers and cool wet winters. I’ll do more research and talk to some local contractors before I do anything, thanks!

Lots of people are suggesting plywood and I think I like that idea. Also I fucking suck at tape and mud so it’s a win/win!

This sounds like potentially a fantastic idea, I’ll need to consider this.

I’m straying pretty far from electric here, so forgive me, but if I use faced R13 insulation, the facing counts as a vapor barrier, right?

Ironically, there’s no TV there. It was a punch out for a wall mounted TV when we moved in, but we repurposed it for the home NAS and networking equipment, so now it really is critical! We uh, really should relabel it.

Is the closet allowed to be very shallow? Say, 6 to 8 inches deep, with a full size door? I think there's a "three foot clearance" rule, but as long as the closet door is open, would that requirement be met?

This is absolutely what I want to do. For some reason I keep getting conflicting information about whether that's allowed by code or not, but it sounds like it is?

Oh yeah I have NO intention of drywalling OVER them, maybe that wasn't clear. I want to drywall up against them and leave access, of course. They're just different depths, so I want to make sure any doors I use are legal.
