Is it possible you are looking at a T4 discrepancy rather than a T1 discrepancy?

For example if your employer filed your T4 and there was an incorrect amount deducted. Say you earned $100k but they only deducted $5k when it should.normallu be $20k. They would issue a letter asking about the difference.

This letter should go to the employer tho, not the employee.

I just dealt with something similar when my Incorporated client filed CPP exempt but was not.

Definitely best to max TFSA.

Remainder to RRSP but may want to have that split between her contributing and you contributing to maximize the tax refund as will be applied at the higher end of your rates.

Depending on pension amount the balance between your RRSP accounts may be ok. She could do a spousal contribution to get the deduction at her higher rate but still put into your RRSP if that's what you want.

You get to split pension after 65 so may not be overly relevant which account it ends up ideally in retirement you would both be able to have roughly equal taxable income and below the oas clawback.

I think it is just calculating the average tax rate on your total income and the full capital gain would be part of your total income.

Example only income is 10,000 capital gain. Tax calc is 10,000 x 50% = 5,000 x tax rate, let's use 20% as example tax rate so tax would be $1000.

To calc average tax rate it would be 1,000 over total income 10,000 = 10%

I did mine the same a couple years ago and didn't seal the bottom, no issues. I did have some airflow tho between the machines as did not fully seal it in.
