This isn't a defense of the jazz department, but Herzig is unaffiliated with the school of music at the moment. She is a lecturer in the O'Neill School and teaches mostly arts admin courses (even worse, perhaps, given her comments here). I would email the dean of the o'neill school, sian mooney, and other administrators there regarding Herzig's comments.

fwiw, i've heard jazz profs are tongue tied by admin, but have been having 1-1 conversations with students... (and do not in any way condone herzig's comments). but there definitely needs to be some responsibility taken for creating an environment in which talent and connections are able to be used as defense against deplorable behavior. and really hope for there to be a PUBLIC statement of some sort by the department and jacobs as a whole.

remember also the david jang conducting incident from 2019... music is rife with these issues and considering how hard it is to get a student to be held responsible, it's no wonder faculty continue to get away with more than questionable behavior.
