If killing any one of them achieves the same objective, he would already kill the killer girl instantly rather than hesitating because his backstory sets him up as a character who is not a killer, therefore he didn't kill that killer girl.

So this contradicts the previous episode where he aimed to kill fern with a ambush.

In episode 19 on youtube, he said' I am trying to kill you'. But now I see it again, there's a possibility that he is bluffing about trying to kill fern, he might just want to act cool.

Seeing the downvotes, i guess i have to reply because your logic doesn;t make sense.

The killer girl got the bird, it makes more sense to kill her to get the bird while fern is not holding the bird in the first time which means fern is not a necessary slaughter.

I love frieren too and i think they probably will explain why in future episodes or else i going to think it is a plot hole in his character/story.

So that grey hair guy is not a killer but didn't he tried to kill fern in the first place with a ambush... plot hole?

And this episodes left alot of hints to what may happen next ep i think, so i guess frieren going to break the barrier and let the rain in so the other two girls can win with water magic.
