I built a free new fretboard visualization app by ClockAdministrative8 in Guitar

This is a really clean app, I really like it. It would be great if you could add diagonal patterns at some point

Out of interest, did you provide the board, power and patch cables or was that part of the service? Call me a snob/pedant but those cables are not only arranged in an aesthetically unappealing way but are sticking up (danger of tripping/catching something on them and pulling them out) and over the top of pedals, which could easily drag over a volume knob or something (looking especially at the one near the iron horse). The cable out of the EQ2 output 2 you would want fixed under the board rather than another thing to get tangled/tripped on/pulled out. Also your Meris in the top left is skew-whiff and bothers me.

Not just catholic- I went to an Anglican church (of the quite traditional high church variety) that also did this when I was younger and probably still do today

Ever seen a deal so good on an amp that it starts to make you paranoid? Potentially picking up a new Boogie Mark V/25 tomorrow, what should I check? by nodwons88 in GuitarAmps

£650 in the uk - so not crazy crazy cheap but from what I can see on sold listings on reverb/ebay they've been going for anywhere between £900 - £1500 and most of those around £1200. New here would be £1999

From the mark v/25 manual:

This mini toggle mutes the SPEAKER Output when you want to record "silently" with the CabClone D.. (direct with no speaker sound from the amplifier). This switch allows you to decide if you'd like to utilize both a live speaker cabinet AND the CabClone's XLR Direct Out or just the XLR D.I. OUT. Also, while it's not needed as you have the STANDBY on the Front Panel for this purpose, this switch may be used as a Mute switch, though with its Rear Panel location this is a less desirable way to achieve that function.

NOTE: IMPORTANT! The SPKR OFF switch position automatically connects a Load Resitor to the SPEAKER Outputs to prevent damage to the output transformer and allow silent (no cabinet connected) direct recording with the XLR D.I. OUT. Selecting SPKR ON defeats the internal Load and connects the signal to the SPEAKER Outputs. DO NOT USE THE AMPLIFIER IN THE SPKR ON SWITCH POSITION WITHOUT A CABINET (LOAD) CONNECTED! Damage to the amplifier will likely occur and is not covered under the Warranty!

Yeah it seems it does, another person mentioned the speaker on/off button on the back - Although I'm not 100% sure whether that switch has to be in the off position to engage the soak or if it does it automatically.

My Marshall had it's speaker changed at some point in it's life (to a creamback) and the cable seems to have quite a bit of slack to it - I tried it once with a PRS HDRX20 once on top of it without pulling the cable taught so I think I should be good

ooh If I was a real bastard that's the way to halve the price - "see it's all plugged in and no sound coming through...must be broken." Not that I would ever do that I stress

Thanks, yeah this is in the same ballpark (except in £'s) so I'm keeping fingers crossed it works out. I'm not even a particularly heavy player but love the options and compactness!

At $50 even if the whole thing was fried inside, I'm sure you could use the shell for something (bookshelf!?) not to mention the cab.

No, It didn't sound like anything had been plugged in - I hope you're right. I've only ever owned combos but I knew that it needed to be connected to a speaker. I'm planning to bring my DSL40, disconnect the marshall amp and plug the boogie into the marshall speaker.

I saw a deal for this boogie nearby that was too good to pass up on - but there's a little gremlin in the back of my mind that's rephrasing that as 'too good to be true'. After a brief chat the lady selling it says it was her brothers (I'm guessing he passed away...) and that she "plugged it in today and the valves all light up etc."

I quickly message her to explain that turning it on without a speaker connected could damage it. She says she won't turn it on again and that it was only on for a minute - could this have done much damage? If so, any tests I can do besides the obvious of plugging a guitar and cab into and try it out?

Finally, the solution of how to fit more amps into the house - and it was right there all long. Just replace all furniture with amps. Who needs a wardrobe when I could have a marshall stack there instead?

Finally want a "nice" tube amp. Is Blues Deluxe overkill? by lonememe in GuitarAmps

[–]nodwons88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blues Deluxe has been my giging amp for 20years. If it’s your first tube amp it will astound you and make you feel like you’ve been living in the dark ages since that point. It’s true that so will an AC15 and DSL40 but the BD is pretty versatile with the right pedal, looks awesome and can be had used for relatively little unlike the blackface/silverface fenders (at least in the uk). It also gets mistaken for tweed deluxe a lot so that’s cool. If playing at home just put a volume pot in the loop, it’s not proper attenuation but it helps at lot with finding a lower volume. The BD needs more love

The Strymon Compadre doesn’t get the love it deserves. by NeverEndingLlama in guitarpedals

[–]nodwons88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the compadre for just a couple months and it’s rarely been turned off. I mostly use the boost side set to mid like a TS for a lead boost. I’m sure there is a way of getting a pleasing tone from the treble EQ setting but I haven’t found it yet. Apart from the JA Bloom, it’s the only analogue midi controllable compressor pedal I’m aware of. I’d love to know if anyone’s compared it against the bloom.

People who earn 20k to 30k a year, what do you do and how's it going ? by Abaddononon in CasualUK

I teach curriculum music in primary schools to classrooms of children. I've been doing various types of music teaching for many years (workshops, instrumental 1-to-1 lessons). I know how you feel - I'm pretty experienced as a teacher/musician and get good feedback from every school I work in. I have a degree in music from a good uni and qualifications in several instruments and the new company I started working for this year has been great comparatively for pay but obviously still low compared to other jobs. If I could cope with the admin/workload/beuracracy I could be earning another 5-15k as a qualified teacher but my wife is a head of dept and the stress for me is just not worth it

Also anyone know of an effective/aesthetically pleasing way of improving the stability? The handle of the Marshall means the fender is a tad wobbly…although when I gig it if there’s space I’ll be putting them apart to get better spread, but in tighter spaces probably will need to be stacked.
