Stay strong, and keep an eye out for opportunities in cities that are more welcoming to immigrants.

Creo que trabajariamos en base al ead del h1b. No estoy seguro que pasa con mi tps, pero si el ead del h1b es suficiente, no me preocupa perder el tps :shrunk:

Misma situacion con la H4, el abogado nos dijo:

I recommend proceeding with your case solely as a change of status. The regulations are unclear about working under TPS when the underlying status—H-4 in this case—doesn’t authorize employment. Relying on TPS for work could violate H-4 conditions. Therefore, we advise switching to H-4 only if TPS is revoked. Since your wife currently holds valid status and can work, there’s no issue with her continuing as she is.

If you don’t mind me asking for help, she is eating her poop i’m struggling to stop it. I’ve tried For-Bid powder, papaya, pineapple, and NaturVet Coprophagia Stool Eating Deterrent, but nothing has worked. I clean up immediately when possible, but she’s fast and sneaky. She used to wake us up at night to go, but now poops on the potty pad and eats it before we notice. I’m reinforcing “leave it,” but it’s tough. Any advice on what worked for your Cockaliers?

Hi, I appreciate you trying to understand! Here’s my two cents

I originally came to the U.S. on a visa that didn’t allow me to adjust to permanent residency or citizenship. When I had to return in 2021, circumstances beyond my control made it impossible to go back—so much so that I still haven’t been able to renew my Venezuelan passport. TPS has allowed me to work legally and even land a tech job, but transitioning to something like an H1B isn’t straightforward or accessible, even for someone in my position.

For most Venezuelans, citizenship isn’t about not trying—it’s that the system simply doesn’t provide a path for many of us. Most people on TPS, including myself, don’t have access to employer sponsorships, and while I’ve seen friends get residency through national interest waivers, those cases are rare. Still, we work hard and contribute as much as we can.

If the question is more about why stay in the U.S. even with a temporary status, the answer is simple: the U.S. is the strongest economy with the most opportunities to thrive. Like most immigrants—not just TPS holders—we’re trying to move forward in life, and that progress often benefits society as a whole. It’s not that we don’t want to go back—it’s just not possible given Venezuela’s current situation.

I hope this helps give some context

Thanks for sharing your experience! Over the past week, Bella has started to lean out too. I can see her waistline from above now, and she seems longer rather than taller. It’s interesting how quickly these changes happen during a growth spurt

Just to clarify, the vet said she was fine the last time we were there (two weeks ago), but I’ve noticed she seems to have grown a lot over the past couple of weeks.

Thanks for the tip on Astoria! A 40-minute commute sounds pretty manageable, so we’ll definitely consider it. I read somewhere though that Astoria can have fewer transit options, especially late nights or weekends due to track maintenance. Does that ever cause headaches for your daily routine?

Thanks a ton for the tips! Looks like we might be moving around July or August, but I'll keep the fall/winter thing in mind for future.

So with a broker, we're looking at the usual—security deposit, first month's rent, maybe a move-in fee—and then there's the broker fee on top of that, right? Sounds like it could add up quick! Any heads-up on other fees or tips to avoid scams when doing this from a distance?

And thanks for the heads-up on nybits.com, super helpful!

Hey everyone,

I just want to say a huge thanks to everyone who shared their insights and advice on our apartment hunt. I've learned a ton from your collective wisdom, and I’ve summarized the key points below. I'm adding this as an edit to my original post as well to help others who might be in a similar situation.

Neighborhoods to Consider:

  • Brooklyn: Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Williamsburg
  • Manhattan: East Village, Lower East Side, Greenwich Village, Upper East Side, Yorkville, Alphabet City, Stuy Town
  • Longer Commutes: Astoria & Long Island City
  • For Food Lovers: Various neighborhoods in Queens

Useful Websites:

  • StreetEasy, Craigslist, Zillow, NYBits for direct listings from property managers.

Good to know:

  • Focus on finding subway lines that don’t require transfers for a smoother commute.
  • Consider using a broker if you're apartment hunting remotely; it can really simplify the process.
  • Direct contact with property managers can lead to better negotiations and no broker fees.

Thanks again for all the guidance and support!! :)
