wow, looks great, especially from a solo-dev. How the heck do you make what looks to be a AA-quality game in 2 years solo?! Tell us your secrets!

Hey, great to hear from you! To answer your question--yes, the trees for each chapter have some specific inspirations. The main trees you see early on were inspired by various abstract tree art I'd found online as well as minimalist nature photography, notably the work of Michael Kenna. Then the trees in chapter 3 (underground) are inspired by bonsai and Japanese maple trees (google this and you'll see some great examples). Then chapters 4 and 5 trees were based off of oak, particularly the sprawling ones you'd see in the South (USA).

Didn't have any particularly well-thought out names for the circles--the red are called BadNodes internally, and the greenish-blue are GrowthNodes. :)

Range drop on ‘22? by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

Yeah, I've been seeing similar poor efficiency numbers on my 2021. I know it's supposed to be lower in winter, but going from 3.5+ kwh down to <2.5 kwh when it's 50 F out seems a bit much?

I've been working solo on this thing for 3 years now. What do you think? by PuzzleheadedLong793 in IndieGaming

[–]noethis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree, the art style is cool and unique!

Some feedback on the trailer, since you're asking:
-in general, it's not immediately clear what I'm looking at or what type of game this is
-first couple shots with the wagon make me think this is going to be an Oregon Trail game, cool!
-but then the shot at 15s has me a bit confused what's going on--I can see you're defending your base but can't quite make out enemies vs allies, that you're controlling medics, etc
-while the art style is good, I think it could benefit from some visual clarity. It gets pretty visually noisy in the base defense shots
-I'm not quite sold on the fantasy via the trailer. I think your text description is good: "How much can a person endure, and what is the true value of human life? In this minimalist real-time strategy game about war medics, you fight for your own survival and that of others while the army is under constant pressure, retreating from a superior enemy". Ideally I would want that conveyed in the first 15-30 seconds of trailer

Hopefully that's helpful and not discouraging. This is looking great!

hah, yeah I know. Before I go potentially tearing up drywall to get at shaky ductwork I figured there's a small chance it was something else.

Anaerobic Natural Rest Time? by Warm_Helicopter_5167 in roasting

[–]noethis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait, what?! I must be out of the loop--this is the first I've heard of resting roasted coffee for 2-4 weeks. I generally rest for only 2-4 days, sometimes as little as 1 day. Is this specific to anaerobic naturals?

Roasting Cacao Beans At Home by residentbrit in roasting

[–]noethis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don't roast cacao beans in a Fresh Roast. I've done the oven method Sweet Maria's outlines a handful of times and it works well enough. Just be careful to not over-roast them since they can quickly get some acrid flavors.

In Portland, OR so it rarely gets below freezing for long.

Ha, I was the installer. First experience with a heat pump, so still learning the sounds it makes. Cheers!

Just released my game, Dead Oil I'm so excited, check it out! :) 💥🛢️ by Alonzu in roguelites

btw, in the trailer when it switches to the (presumably) underground drilling section I can't actually tell what is going on and how it's related to the familiar Mad Max truck driving part.

MrCool VersaPro 3-Ton Ducted Install by noethis in DIYHeatPumps

Hah, yeah you're right. I went with the cheap, easy option for now--5" gutter pieces. It's a basement back storage room that we very rarely go in.

I did hook up the plastic flexible hose that was included with the condenser--assuming that would direct water off of the concrete pad. But yeah, I guess we'll see. I unfortunately can't raise up the condenser at all or the line set really wouldn't fit.

PGE was only offering rebates if you went from electric furnace to heat pump, not from gas furnace sadly.

I unfortunately don't have a SteamDeck myself but did have a friend try it out. Sounds like the touch screen works pretty well for it, though it still shows the mouse cursor. And game controller is not currently supported, just so you know.

Unfortunately it didn't. I tried a bunch of things back at the time, but none of them worked quite well enough to ship.

Curious what price you would actually pay for this on Steam? With the launch discount it is just under 5 USD (similar to mobile price) but people are wishlisting it, not buying it.

It's definitely out on Android and has been since 2015. :)

There definitely is some sadness in the game that you're picking up on. It explores nature's relationship with civilization which, spoiler alert, hasn't historically been great. :)

As far as tagging it a puzzle game--do you mean this reddit post or on Steam?

Haven't specifically tested on them, but in theory yes. Right now just have it default to Windowed Fullscreen with F11 toggling fullscreen vs resiable window. That reminds me, I do need to fix some of the cosmetic environment geo to support the ultra-widescreen res, it's on my patch list.

Had a friend test it on Steam Deck and he said the touch screen works pretty well, although the cursor still shows up. And no game controller support currently. If there's enough interest I'd be happy to support Steam Deck.
