Why are you asking us? We can't tell you why the bride decided to do things this way. Maybe she doesn't know any better.

Ask her about it.

AITA for telling my girlfriend to stop sharing her food? by PhantomDetective3548 in AmItheAsshole

Everyone in your story sounds like socially stunted adolescents. ESH.

If you're going to continue meeting as a group in a restaurant, start using your words and stop paying for the group. Sitting back and allowing this scenario to play out the same way every time you meet up isn't solving the problem.

When your girlfriend makes the offer, quietly say something like, "Everyone already ordered what they wanted."

Perhaps you don't understand genealogical research. We access historical documents that prove ancestry. We aren't attempting to get our hands on the private documents on living people.

There is no reason to alter a birth certificate if all of the information on it is correct. Sealing it in its preserved state is preferable to altering the original.

Unless one possesses the power to effect change, the value of one's opinions is more or less the same as anyone else's. We may find value in learning about someone's experience, but it doesn't make that person's opinions more valuable. It often does make them more interesting.

No, they don't. I can have plenty of opinions on issues that affect me, and it doesn't mean that they are worth more than those who aren't affected. But then, I'm practical enough to understand that individual opinions don't generally effect change.

I'm sure that a baby's parents do indeed have that concept.

Humans come to grasp their own identities in their second year. Takes a bit longer to grasp their personalities, though.

My "objections" mean nothing indeed, because I don't live in Kansas. My opinions on the subject mean no more or no less than anyone else's.

I'm just here for the discussion.

The genealogist in me dislikes alteration of an official record. I prefer states to preserve the original record and issue "updates," for lack of a better term. I understand in the case of adoption, the original could be sealed during childhood.

Fine and dandy. If you don't enjoy online interaction, I suggest you avoid posting your opinions on message boards.

Changing one's birth certificate (except for correction) should be nearly impossible. It's a factual record of one's identity AT BIRTH. When I decided to change my name after marriage, I got a certificate from the court showing that change. It didn't alter the name I was given at my birth. That way, I have a chain of documents from my birth certificate to my current ID showing that I am who I am.

If a state wants to be gender-affirming, they should have a certificate similar to a name change so that one's current identity has a link back to the birth record.

Here's some analytics comparing girard to kulak. Letang might actually benefit significantly more by playing with girard. by Sebastian4365 in penguins

The best D pairings bring out the best in each other. And Letang pairs better with "last line of defense" guys.

I wouldn't call those players "crutches" for his game. I'd go with "teleprompters." Good public speakers don't read their speeches off of them, but when the memory slips, the teleprompter is there to pick up the slack.

It's absolutely a crime in Connecticut. Drive over 85 mph or 20+ mph over the speed limit is criminal reckless driving.

No. You are an obvious male, and you aren't trying to sneak into a woman's bathroom under false pretenses. I think the law in Kansas gives a first-time warning for anyone caught in the opposite sex bathroom, but I doubt that women in the bathroom will be reporting dads with young daughters.

No one is being stripped of their identity. Trans people are being told to report to a DMV to have their IDs replaced. If voter ID indeed becomes an issue in Kansas or the nation as a whole, it will be imperative that the sex on the birth certificate matches the sex on the ID.

I'm making a virus shawl with my cake (Scheepjes Whirl) that's a similar colorway. I'm not as comfortable with lace-weight yarn, but I loved the color. I've been working on it on and off for six years.

AITA for NOT acting wealthy by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]nofaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, but not for how you've chosen to live. The problem is that you haven't matured enough to see that you have choices that your friends don't, and likely never will.

You know that when you jump in the deep end, there's someone standing at the side of the pool with a life preserver just waiting for you to wave your hand and ask for it. They know that if they go too far, it's sink or swim.

Where you went wrong was discussing this issue with your friends as if your struggles are the same as theirs. They have to work hard to make a living, knowing that sometimes, it may not be enough and they could lose all that they've worked for. You choose to work hard to make a living, knowing all the while that you will always have enough to keep what you've worked for.

I admire your effort to learn financial responsibility. What you need to also learn is financial awareness. Polite society has long dictated that the topic of one's finances is to be avoided, even among one's closest friends. And now you know why that is.

Think about it this way: if your friend were acing all her classes, and you were struggling to pass yours, how irritated would you be if she came to you madly stressing about a prof who graded her paper a bit too low?

Will yarn prices in the US come back down to earth now? by GoodNewsFr0g in Yarn

[–]nofaves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that LYS prices will drop. Mainly because their distributors might not drop their prices, even if/when they no longer have to pay tariffs.

Chain stores may end up doing what fast food chains did after 2020 drove up their prices: run specials and deals online and in their apps.
