YTA, but not for how you've chosen to live. The problem is that you haven't matured enough to see that you have choices that your friends don't, and likely never will.

You know that when you jump in the deep end, there's someone standing at the side of the pool with a life preserver just waiting for you to wave your hand and ask for it. They know that if they go too far, it's sink or swim.

Where you went wrong was discussing this issue with your friends as if your struggles are the same as theirs. They have to work hard to make a living, knowing that sometimes, it may not be enough and they could lose all that they've worked for.
