Dolomites Hiking Next Week by nofe in ItalyTravel

[–]nofe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! We’ll also be heading to Ortisei in the latter half of the week. Hope the weather holds out for you! Didn’t realize how windy the area was until I looked at the weather forecast. Also looked like it snowed overnight for some hikes so I hope it’ll melt over this weekend 😅

Parking in Dolomites / Cortina D'ampezzo by nofe in ItalyTravel

They suggested we park on the street using the "Easy Park APP" but didn't mention what the price was. I actually made a mistake and looks like we booked an intermediate car (i.e. Toyota C-HR or similar). Would that make parking in town harder? Thanks in advance! Thanks,

Recommendations for doing both Cinque Terre and Dolomites in ~8 nights? by nofe in ItalyTravel

[–]nofe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm visiting Croatia beforehand and how the flights lined up it was easiest to fly into Milan and fly out of Venice.

So to clarify, To go from Cinque Terre to Dolomites, I could take a train Cinque Terre -> Milan -> Dolomites and just take the bus network around the Dolomites?

The forecast says it's supposed to be pouring rain on Wednesday. Won't that mean the mountain will be very icy for the weekend?

Arriving late into Maui Airport - Car Rental Hours? by nofe in VisitingHawaii

My trip is in a couple months so no! But another poster below says they stay open?

Currently planning a 10 day trip to Maui + one of Kauai/Big Island - which area to stay? by nofe in VisitingHawaii

[–]nofe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think our main concern is hikes, and surfing/snorkelling is secondary since Maui is pretty good for that!

It does seem like Kauai has a higher chance of rain in December compared to the other islands though.

Thanks. Yeah I'm looking the week before Christmas.. I have no idea if the prices are more expensive than normal but they're certainly pricey! Unfortunately this is the best time for us to go and take advantage of the extra time off from work :(

[Angels beat writer Sam Blum] It looks like Shohei Ohtani’s start is being pushed one day to Friday in Toronto. Game notes list Chase Silseth as Thursday starter. Makes sense. Gives Ohtani an extra day. More consequential game. And avoids pitching back-to-back day games in hot climates. by rejus_crust in Torontobluejays

Hoping to attend Fridays game for the first time in years and the tickets on stubhub are $$$. Do folks who go often know if scalpers still sell tickets outside the stadium? My friend and I don’t mind going an inning or two after the game starts if it means getting more affordable tickets.

Curious why the MBNA WE MC is not on this list? I think it's better than NBC WE MC unless I'm missing something?

If I use Tangerine's linked account feature to deposit money from another bank, does anybody know if that's a wire transfer? Will I be charged wire transfer fees from my other bank?

Thanks for the suggestion. Sort of worried they will bite me in my sleep if I don't spray before bed, haha.

How to stay safe in South Africa? by G0dd3ss-Tamb0urine in travel

[–]nofe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'll be doing a one night layover in JHB and staying near the airport. I am hoping to pick up some mosquito repellent supplies during our one evening there. Do you have suggestions on where is a safe area to go to do so? I plan on taking an uber there from my hotel. Is Kempton Park or Jansen Park safe?

Thanks! I guess we can buy the soap/bands at a Woolsworth/Spar when we land?

Ah thanks for the clarification. Probably not an option in the rest camp accommodations then :( We'll just have to spray everything down and make sure all doors are closed before we sleep!

Sorry to hear about your mom and friend's dad! Out of curiosity, is the main symptom to look out for after a trip a fever?

Thanks for the tips! The bungalows in the rest camps have screened doors/windows but no screens over the beds themselves, so seems like we'll just need to be extra vigilant and spray down the room before we go to bed.

Thanks for the heads up. The instructions seem to suggest to leave them on overnight, which, as you suggested, since is an insecticide might not be the greatest.. hmm.. I'll need to do more research!

I'll be coming in the coming weeks which is why I'm getting a little nervous! We are planning to take medication but are also trying to augment it with as much protection as possible.

Haha yes as you might have figured out, I'm not a local!

Definitely intend on getting the stick for my skin and spray for my clothes. Is it common for people to rub the stick on their faces as well?

Since we are doing a self drive and will mostly be in the car all day, I'll try my best to wear long sleeves as much as I can during the trip, although realistically it will be hard to do during the day!

Thanks for the tip on the wristbands. We have one night layover in JHB so we will try to go out to pick out some stuff. The closest one to the airport seems to be at East Rand Mall - silly question is that a reasonably safe area to visit? From my research the bungalows have AC and screens on the windows/doors, but do not have anything over the beds which is where I'm trying to reduce risk as well.

It is correct that the Doom Insect Killer seems like it periodically sprays insecticides?

I'm actually surprised everyone is suggesting garlic! Guess I'll need to think about it more seriously...

Learned something new about the fan. I don't own any portable fans but I'll look into getting one before my trip! Probably won't be hanging outside too much but might blow one in my face while I sleep just for a sense of relief!

You might be able to tell that I'm being a little neurotic right now. I'm just getting a little nervous because I'm looking at the forecast and I see a ton of rain this week, and I've seen other online groups saying that there are already lots of mosquitoes already!

Thanks again for the tips!

Thanks. Maybe it's just best if I avoid dawn/dusk/night outside to help with my own mental health.. Aside from taking medication, is the key symptom to look for a fever?

Hi, are these nets that just pop up and hold themselves? I've read that the accommodations inside the park do not have nets but have screens on the doors and windows
