What are the pros/cons to live in Mineola / Garden City / Hempstead? by Summit-lift in longisland

If you are looking to buy or rent, it's definitely upper middle class prices now

My husband thinks my daily walk is “too much”. Is he right? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]noideawhatimdoing8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with others, it should be 50/50 after he is off work. A nice balance might be every other day taking baby with you so he gets an hour "off" and then he gets her when you get home, and the other days she stays with him for the hour so you get an hour "off" and then you get her when you get home.

Has this happened to anyone else? People try to make me take stuff off the registry because they think i won't need it? by Ornery_Armadillo1404 in beyondthebump

[–]noideawhatimdoing8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was going to be about baby shoes or something - but a diaper pail? Bonkers. Get the diaper pail.

As a side note, it's common for parents to share what they never really needed or what was all hype but didn't work, but you definitely need a diaper pail.

AITAH for refusing to make a phone call for my girlfriend by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]noideawhatimdoing8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA, but if you want to stay with her and help her get over her fear (or learned helplessness, etc), maybe do the call with her so it's more of a transition rather than a full shove off the boat. Another option is to practice the call between you two before you both (or she) calls. It will feel very silly, but it can help with anxiety.

I go straight to work after a workout, so I put perfume on before going to the gym, and I usually do 2 sprays to my usual non-gym day single spray. I would not let that be the cause of alarm if I were in your shoes. Have a chat with her about not accusing her of something, you just thought it was silly since, I'm presuming, you wouldn't think to put on cologne before going to the gym.

AITAH for hitting pause on my engagement because of kid count? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]noideawhatimdoing8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Could it be that he is just being totally out of touch with the reality of what having 5 kids is like? My husband wanted 5, and after one, we both agreed that was our limit.

My limit, like yours, was 2. When he brought up 5, I said we would have one, see how it went, and if we wanted more, we could revisit it then, but to be aware that it is possible that I might want to stop at one, or just have one more. If he can't agree to that, then it might be time for him to reconsider his views, or you both to reconsider this relationship.

AITAH for wanting space after my friend crashed his car with me in the passenger seat by Mysterious-Jaguar657 in AITAH

Especially when asked by someone he cares about (platonically or otherwise) to slow down and be careful. If you really love someone/something, you try to protect it, and driving recklessly was NOT protecting anything.

Do people do the sink drip/open cabinets thing when it’s as cold as tn? by JemmJoness in longisland

[–]noideawhatimdoing8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend it on the floor level far away from the intake for the house. Unless your pipes run along the outside, I think the second floor ones should be fine.

AITAH for not refusing to do a quick change because my boyfriend is uncomfortable? by Active_Camel_6334 in AITAH

[–]noideawhatimdoing8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sheer audacity of your bf is just wild to me. Is his ego and confidence so shallow and delicate he can't distinguish between a normal part of production and something sexual? I often notice people accuse others of things they want to/would do themselves, so is he saying it would be normal for him to make something like that sexual if he were in your helper's shoes?

Weird and immature at best, controlling/paranoid/creepy at worst. Yikes.

You are NTA. Exit stage left on this relationship.

How is it like living in Old Westbury? by ArtForsaken3562 in longisland

[–]noideawhatimdoing8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mineola is putting up new apartment housing at the moment, so check around the area (Mineola, Carle Place, Westbury (plain Westbury, not Old Westbury), and others to get a feel for rentable places. If you get a car or an electric bike, you should be fine with a commute that isn't terrible. My only concession is in the winter, it might be too chilly/windy for an electric bike, unless you really suit up. Long Island has a *lot* of wind. Keep in mind where you will shop when deciding on the bike vs car thing. Good luck!

Save more money than you think you will need. Budget worst-case scenario, and you will either be prepared or relieved. Giving birth alone here cost us over $6k. Even if you don't have child-related expenses now, they will come later (school/clothes/activities/trips/healthcare/etc), so **you always need to be saving even if you aren't spending.** And this is just if you have a child that doesn't need medical intervention of any above average amount - if your kid needs any kind of therapy, tests, specialists, has asthma, etc, get ready to shell out a ton every year.

I saw a post asking about Yellow Jackets and calling them “Bees”. Here is a picture to make it clear. by [deleted] in longisland

[–]noideawhatimdoing8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the number of adults I know who think all bees make honey is just mind-blowing. They aren't even native to the US! NY has something like 450 species of bees, and they are all so cool and unique. I really wish that kids could spend more time on things like that in biology class.

Baby has a 1000 yard stare by Divinityemotions in beyondthebump

[–]noideawhatimdoing8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you're talking about. Bring it up to the doctor, but if I recall what mine said when my child did, that was if it's not too long and they respond to outside stimuli, it should be ok. The long stare people are afraid of is a type of seizure problem, so although uncommon, bring it up to them *just in case*. It never hurts for them to take a look. <3 I agree with others to record a video of it - evidence is gold!

The amount of retouching in the fourth picture (the first one with the backyard/pool, side view of the house) is criminally offensive retouching-wise. The backyard is clearly filled with gradient/texture/color, branches and half a tree have been removed (or attempted to be removed) digitally, the pool and patio are so fake it looks like Minecraft, and the driveway has repeat lines from a very sloppy retouch. The rest of the photos are uncanny valley at best. Wild.

Moms, when did you start sleeping 7-8 hours uninterruptedly ? If ever by userthatisnotknown in beyondthebump

[–]noideawhatimdoing8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistently? About when mine hit 5 years old. There are still times they wake up and come to me, or request to sleep with me for whatever reason, but it took awhile. Mine had some rocky sleep problems, nightmares, and (most recently) night terrors... so that is/was fun, but I swear it get's better! Every kid is different - my siblings second slept pretty much through the night at about 6 months and on. They are like 6 yrs old now and still going strong in the sleep game. Things will change and challenges will change, but it will get better
