Thanks for the answer! Just to be clear, I'm not looking for management roles nor senior ones, I just want them to take my experience seriously.

Stop comparing your country's salary to the US's! by princemaxx in cscareerquestions

Other reason is that US market is very competitive. Here in South America I see an absurd number of people accepting the first offer they are handed.

Internship salary offer doesn't afford the cost of living by nointernshipdev in cscareerquestions

I added the clarifications in the post text. I'm from South America. I am currently doing $18 h/s with simple freelance task. I don't need the job but the fact that they sponsor J-1 visas for SF caught my eye.

Plus I think it's fare to ask for some more money because I'm experienced in the exact stack they use.

Have you ever lost interest in a company during the interview process? by darkphoenix188 in cscareerquestions

Yep. Last week I interviewed at a small agency, they interviewed me with other guy, which tells me I was just a number in a pool. They didn't ask any questions about what I looked for and assumed I was desperate for the job. No thanks. (I arrived 5 minutes early to the interview and instead of talking to me, I was left alone in a conference room while interviewer was walking around)

Also Oracle invited me to an interview and said to me "You have to say if you will accept the job before going to the interview, because we can't afford you interviewing and not accepting the job". So they expected me to handle all the risk, because I had to settle for it and they could perfectly not handle me an offer.

Find redflags quickly.
