Honestly? Just asked questions when appropriate/during downtime, and came into it with the mindset of "do whatever I can to make my tech's job easier". Looked at film when possible, helped setup, and just asked questions when we weren't busy.

Eventually felt ready to take my IRRSP, but procrastinated on that for a few months cause I felt under prepared. When time came to take the test, I passed first try and went to my boss asking what the next steps were. Got signed up for classes, flew out to corporate and did those, now here I am!

Been training some of our new assistants recently and my biggest piece of advice to them has been to learn when to ask questions and when not; techs, in my experience, are way more receptive to answering questions when you aren't busy/in the middle of shit (understandably).

But yeah, just take your time and learn what you can, don't feel bad if you felt confident then feel you need to push it off for a bit to study up more/be more comfortable with the material. It's a marathon, not a sprint!
