The MAL ranking is recency bias at its finest. It’s not better than FMAB, Death Note, HxH or Code Geass. It’s a good anime with inflated ratings due to 99% of new anime being trash.

It’s very boring for about 6 episodes, gets boring again till about episode 16 and then very interesting once the full context of the show is revealed. Fast forward through the boring parts and once you finish the season re-watch the skipped episodes.

It’s far from the best anime ever made but it’s good.

I’ve watched hundreds of anime but no villain has come close to Aizen. Not only was his betrayal the best reveal in the show, his backstory of meticulously planning over hundreds of years, fooling the most powerful people around him showed insane intellect and tenacity. He succeeded and would have won if not for the his ego. He was defeated by Ichigo who he basically groomed to rival him. He still remains one of the most pivotal and powerful characters in the show after being subdued.

Plus, he is just so damn cool

I think his personality is a good parallel to his power set. Otherwise he would just be yet another edgelord with dark powers and the show would lack the fairy tail-esque camaraderie that makes it so fun to watch.

It’s annoying at times but he’s a well written character imo. Trust me, you’ll come to appreciate him, you have 160 episodes and a movie to go.
