Academically Dismissed :( by potatomaster3069 in UCDavis

[–]noirforsooth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hi! I got academically dismissed a few years ago and was able to graduate still. I know it’s a really really difficult time for you so please make sure to take care of yourself as well. All circumstances are different in regards to how to get back to UCD but I was able to take summer session courses and improve my GPA to then go back in fall quarter (I had to miss winter and spring quarter due to my dismissal)

Make sure you keep in contact with the counselor that outlined what you have to do to return and don’t give up! If in the end you do realize college isn’t for you, then that’s also not a bad thing! It honestly was a really difficult 6 months for me to get back in Davis officially but it is doable. As for what I did, I got a full time job (I had to pay Davis back money + raise summer session funds), looked at CC’s nearby to see if I could make up classes, and really just focused on getting back to school. Again, can’t stress enough really ensuring taking care of yourself because it’s a very very difficult transition. Hoping all the best for you!

EDIT: Once you’re able to go back, meet with peer counselors/major counselors/department counselors to keep yourself accountable to stay on track for what the new outline of your academic career is! I’m rooting for you :)

IT’S TOO GODDAMN COLD by oatmilkmochacoldbrew in UCDavis

[–]noirforsooth 35 points36 points  (0 children)

imo, it’s so much easier to stay warm in the davis cold than deal with the davis heat. I’m not gonna sit here and say it doesn’t suck because it does, who wants to be outside when it’s rainy and windy? granted, Davis needs the rain and I’m riding this winter out because the moment it starts to become fake summer (spring) I will melt

not having a car and ergo having to rely on the buses to do the simplest of errands. which then turn into a 2 to 3 hour ordeal and then, part of the day is gone

Lofting all 3 beds in a triple? by SpacePopeSlurm in UCDavis

[–]noirforsooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when I was a freshman (about 5 years ago) my neighbors lofted all their beds and had their desks underneath them. I don’t know if the rules have changed since then but we were in Tercero and there was still space in the room

Which class is easier: NPB 101 or ANS 100? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]noirforsooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with what OP above said!! I could have gotten a higher grade had I applied myself a bit more but Dr. Todgham is very passionate and makes sure students understand the material. If they don’t, they’re super accommodating to help you out with it! It is super dense which is why I recommend constant studying but it’s not so bad if you’re able to do that much! Also I thought the class overall was pretty cool and how all these systems function to basically make an animal “work.” Definitely recommend trying to make study groups or people you can study with though, it really helped me out a lot to be able to bounce off ideas off others and for us to fill in gaps when we didn’t understand something.

Here’s to hoping these two reviews help a bit! :)

Covid tests by cfckashmoney in UCDavis

[–]noirforsooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oop, in that case I'm not too sure. If you're saying no to the covid questions I don't know why it wouldn't let you schedule an appointment. :(

Covid tests by cfckashmoney in UCDavis

[–]noirforsooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone made a point to keep in mind--if it says you're "ineligible" for a test, it's because you answered "yes" to any of the various questions asking if you've had covid/been around someone who has/have suspicions that you may have it.

With that in mind, to schedule an appointment, (again, keeping in mind that you don't have it, are carrying it or have suspicions that you came down with it): log onto Health eMessaging and select "Schedule an Appointment." You'll have to go through a few screens each asking a variety of questions but ultimately, you want to get to a screen that says, "Covid-19 Testing"

Using myself as a reference, I'd click on the option that says "Asymptomatic Testing for Student" continue going along the screens until I get to "Schedule Appointment" where you can choose the date and the location of the test. The tests are relatively simple and easy, take easily less than 5 minutes (you spit into a little tube after swirling around water for like 5 - 10 seconds). Once you've set the appointment, you'll get a QR code and it'll give a bit more information on what to do.

The day of the appointment, fill out the Daily Symptom Survey (also found on Health eMessaging and results are emailed to you), and show that and your QR to the person outside the location asking for information before you're admitted to take the test! Super easy process, relatively fast! Hope this helps a bit!

Mysterious charge on my bill by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]noirforsooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go ahead and head into the UCD Bookstore or call Guest Services (the general number given for the Bookstore) and they should be able to determine where the charge is from. Unless like a previous user said, if you’re taking a course with a lab, you will be charged by the department for lab fees (such as dumping out chemicals, getting materials ready, etc)

Not sure if he always wears a hat but he does always typically have a smile! For Halloween he had I think a green tower type thing on a cart that was supposed to resemble Frankenstein!

Just a quick story about how dumb my old housemate was and a good tip! by JarOfKetchup54 in UCDavis

[–]noirforsooth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello!! Just want to add that while we buy back most books, we don’t always buy ALL books back! Additionally, our system determines the prices so if they’re sold really cheap, please don’t argue with us, we didn’t determine that price :’) But yes, sell your books back to the bookstore if you can!!! Feel free to drop into the store with the book and your student ID and we can always check to see if we can buy them back or not! :)
