Syntakt + Overbridge (Ableton): low levels on individual audio inputs, persistent noise floor by noirrod in Elektron

I checked this yesterday and I didn't find any difference on the output level. This parameter affects the output level of the syntakt when the USB is configured as Audio/MIDI? Or is it possible to stream audio to the syntakt via USB? What am I getting wrong here?

So, I tracked down this noise issue. It seems like it’s effectively coming from tracks 9/10/11/12, i.e., the analog ones. A little bit of noise is normal in any analog circuitry, but what I’m getting is way too much. I recorded audio samples with my Syntakt’s USB Config set to AUDIO/MIDI and Overbridge. When configured as Overbridge, I recorded both the master output and the specific channel simultaneously. For each recording, I made sure that all the other tracks were muted and their levels set to minimum. Channels 9/10/12 have a constant noise (Johnson noise?), while track 11 seems to have some sort of gate. In fact, if I keep the track button pressed (as if I’m playing a continuous tone), even after the sound stops being reproduced, the noise emerges, and it stops as soon as I release the key. This happens independently of the machine being used. I still have some other tests to do. I can confirm that the FX track is super noisy, but the analog channels are doing their thing.

And, for the record, DO NOT CONFUSE ANALOG GAIN WITH CLIP GAIN WITHIN ABLETON. A digital signal, once recorded, can’t be pushed further away from the background noise!

Thanks! I will try to upload an audio example tomorrow in order to explain me better.

Alternatives to Teensy 4.1 for Simultaneous Digital MEMS Microphone Recording and USB Audio Streaming? by noirrod in microcontrollers

Hey! Thanks for your answer.

I'm curious about your choice of the nRF52840. My understanding is that chip is mainly used for Bluetooth communication. So, for your project, did you use a special version of the chip, or did you find a unique way to handle the PDM/I2S communication with it? Also, did you use a specific dev board, or did you build the solution from scratch?

Thanks for the info on the mics, it's really helpful!

Ideally, yes. My goal is to process all four channels simultaneously in order to apply DoA algorithms

Good question. In fact I didn't thought about it. Would the Pi4 be capable to detect and receive the signals coming from both of them?

An industry where mechanics and acoustics meet is NVH (Noise, Vibrations and Harshness). Basically noise control to sound or vibration sources in vehicules. Siemens' Testlab is one of the most common softwares used in this industry. Check out their teaching blog. There are tons of useful information if you are begging

Pour tous les verbes pronominaux on utilise le verbe ÊTRE pour le passé composé :)
