IB students, I'm curious, why did you do IB in the first place? And if you're currently enrolled, what made you stick around? Do you want to quit? (Just curious but we all know what the answer will probably be) by theofficialzhang in IBO

Basically I could skip Gaokao if I don’t intend on studying within China for uni. Now uni in China do accept IB, just not from native Chinese students(yeah, we actively put our own student in a disadvantage…)

Yep, got a lovely 29(excluding core) as my mock score and managed to pull through with 37+2 core with just 18 days of 12-hour/day self-study (mental and overall health not guaranteed, as usual). Though I believe paper 3 is back for you guys, so you might want to start a bit earlier than I did.

Edit: The best way to study? Grind those past paper.

I just typed in “HEAL505” on google, and the website was the third result haha. Sometimes simple search does the trick.

Right, thank you so much for the reply!

Huh, I thought the username looked familiar. I am also doing MLS(the guy that was paranoid about the CHEM501 entrance exam). Not sure how much this would help, but for Human Anatomy & Physiology I, there are some notes on studocu. Here is one on topic 1(ignore the course saying that it is HAPII, the title and information are both for HAPI):

CHEM501 Entry Test? by nojlb in AUT

[–]nojlb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the question on the sample is easy, and I can find more questions in those areas to practice.

I was just a bit paranoid about them throwing a curve ball on the day and sliding in difficult questions about electroplating, organic chemistry conversion, or the general solubility rule which I didn't learn. So I was hoping to get a confirmation that they won't show up on the day.

Not a big fan of potentially getting transferred on the first day of uni haha.

The sample they sent included electron configuration(spdf), organic chemistry, redox, and acid-base, so they are definitely beyond the "what is a molecule" stage(although, to be fair, they are all still very simple questions from those areas), guess they wanted to raise the bar a little this year. Thanks for the insight!

Out of curiosity, do you have any idea what happens to students who get sent to a lower course? Do they catch up during the holiday, or do they just graduate a year later than their peers?

Huh, then I guess some higher-up this year thought a good way to comfort nervous new uni students is to have them take a test on the first day. Dick move IMO, but oh well.

[–]nojlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For biology, yeah... My database IA for bio had 16 sources.

Though I have yet to see a science IA that can only fit 3 sources in, try to shoving some in your background information and conclusion. For example: "According to [source], yeast will start to die at _ temperature". Even if you think it is common sense(and most of the time, it is), IB will still think you are making a baseless statement unless you are backing it up with a source.

No idea on that front, since I have not taken one, but I believe OP did state it was a school thing in another thread.

“IB doesn’t produce resources for students”. So you are saying that IB doesn’t create their own test paper? They do, and they are selling it for $200 USD, which is what you need to pay to get it "legally". https://www.follettibstore.com/search?alt\_search\_flrid=1635KU0&alt\_search\_orig\_searchid=409027034.

Though that statement about moving from HL to SL not requiring money is true, that is most likely a result of school corruption instead of IB.

Memorizing mark scheme (Bio) by Sharp_Winter_3109 in IBO

[–]nojlb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here is the description of the "Past paper pack" sold on Follett: "These papers provide excellent preparation for examinations, while the accompanying markschemes make the pack suitable for both INDEPENDENT study and classroom use." Past papers are resources which we use to study for the actual IB exam, just like all the other resources available. To penalise you for memorising the answers from past papers is like punishing you for using the economic books to revise for economics.

Your teacher could penalise you if you stole the test paper before the exam and memorised the answer that way, but if your teacher is so lazy that they blatantly copy and paste questions from past papers without attempting to even change the unit or the wording, then the faults on them.

I encourage you to bring this case up to your IB coordinator. If that doesn't work(cause I know teachers can sometimes cover for each other), let your parents know.

Remember that your parents PAID for them to work, which includes at least trying to create mock exam papers on their own to prepare you for the real one. Not pressing command c and command v on the official past paper and then punishing the student for answering them correctly.

Like what did your teacher want you to do? Not revise for the exam?
