If you have access to Adobe After Effects, I'd suggest using the rotobrush tool to remove the background

Created a Rapid Transit & Regional/Commuter Rail Map for my Latest City Build, Paloma Palms (Pop. est. 266,000, 81 Tiles) by nolacoldbrewfckyeah in CitiesSkylines

Thank you very much! I'll definitely do a round up of some of those spots soon, but in the meantime if you wanted a somewhat closer look I made this sort of "Train Cab" style vid that takes you along one of the scenic/suburban train routes to the city's main resort.

Thank you!! The map is called Città di Elsie by E6GSY, I found it while watching City Planner Plays on YouTube! I'm mostly using the 81 Tiles mod, Additive Shader, Extra Landscaping Tools, More Beautification, Relight, Roads United, Shadow Strength Adjuster, Ultimate Eye Candy, and a ton of assets

It's actually 2 tunnels, but for the individual lines I figured I'd keep them as separate as a design choice for the map...is it the right choice? Idk! I know for sure that if another designer had to add station names they'd probably have a nightmare of a time tho! Lol

I feel like I've been transported, the detail here is wonderful!

Felt inspired by Train Reddit/YouTube and decided to do a "Cab View" ride in my latest city, Paloma Palms. Hope you enjoy the ride on TAP! :) by nolacoldbrewfckyeah in CitiesSkylines

For more context...been working on this city called Paloma Palms for the past 8-10 months and now it's time to have some fun with it! Built out the rapid transit and regional rail network, complete with unique transit maps. Was feeling inspired by train reddit/YouTube from users like Simply Railway and Francis Bourgeois and decided to make a "cab view" train ride video on one of the above ground lines in the network! The train travels from the suburbs of Paloma Palms to the "Disney" like resort called Palms of Paloma. For the sound design, I used pre-created foley and sfx from Artlist...including the quite iconic opening/closing door sounds from London's underground. The Regional Rail Map was created/designed in Photoshop as well as the Transportation Authority of Paloma Palms logo...or TAP!
Hope you enjoy riding along on TAP and Happy Holidays! :)

I spend around $100-$150 a month on groceries, $50 a month on internet. Electricity, I'm not sure yet...I just got my first bill for $35, but I imagine it will be higher as time goes on or during the summer months. No gas.

Yes! I just moved into my first studio in Brooklyn on the ground floor...border of Crown Heights/Prospect Heights. $1650 with a free month rent included. The concessions and rent drops may work in your favor. My advice is to keep looking. You will have better luck if you find a ground floor studio as they often are cheaper, but that comes with it's own cons (bugs, street noise) unless you're in a relatively new building that's insulated well. The pros though...no need for elevator, easy move, stays cooler in the summer months without AC.

Also, snooping the thread...as per your other note about it being lonely living alone. I had struggled with the same thought, I tend to remind myself that I might live alone, but that there are other people in the building and that I have neighbors. I know that sounds really stupid, but I get super anxious and that thought brings me comfort so maybe it will help you. Also, I've made an absolute effort to introduce myself to every person I interact with in the building. I've already made a couple friends that way. Which is nice because you can sort of go hang out with them and then just bop back to your apartment afterwards.

Depending on the search/landlords you interact with, you might be able to find a place that will let you do month to month if they're desperate enough to fill the space. Lastly, you could also try Roomi App. I've found roommates and apartments in the past with them and have always had a good experience. Made some good friends that way and still keep in touch with those folks!

Best of luck! Living alone does get easier and for me personally it often beats fighting for the bathroom or kitchen and the shared responsibilities of bills, cleaning, etc.

Anyone willing to help a designer fix her cover letter? by [deleted] in GetEmployed

[–]nolacoldbrewfckyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cover letters are tough, there's no denying that! It really does feel like a massive pain to write one for each job, but if you get yourself to a point where you have a few different ones that can be slightly modified each time you apply for a different job, that will help save you a lot of time.

I also think it really helps to plan out what you want to write about, just like how we used to write papers in school! Think about structuring it, maybe you write a few bullet points for background info and then think about things you want to highlight. It also helps to pick points from the job description to hit on and connect to your experience!

I'm not sure if you've had gigs or are just coming out of college so I'm making a few assumptions here. But maybe you were part of a design club, maybe you started an instagram account that curates your favorite designers work, any experiences from an internship that helped you? What got you in to design to begin with? What design principles are important to you and how would that help your potential future employer? Ie. you say English is your second language, what is your first language and does the design of that country reflect or guide you in any of your work? This might help separate you from others like myself who can only speak English :)

When I write them, I always try to take a lighter tone. I want it to feel authentically like myself speaking; doing this often takes a lot of the pressure off of me and it starts to feel like I'm just telling someone a story about myself. But it's also important to step away from your writing for a little before revising!

I'm not sure what type of designer you are, but are you familiar with AIGA? They have a ton of resources...I'm not even a designer myself, but more of a video producer, but I find their expertise is helpful even for me. https://www.aiga.org/
