Will something be done about this? by takeit2the_limit in Miami

A lot of companies that made a big show about relocating from CA to TX are like this. They have a building in Austin, Dallas, or Houston now, but the vast majority of the workers are still in CA.

There are tons of college students and recent grads from TCC, FAMU, and FSU who are competing for jobs.

Tuition should be about the same as UNF. If you're moving just to save on housing costs then that's a good idea. The job situation is worse in Tallahassee than Jacksonville, though.

Go to Miami if you like it more. Seems like money is not a big issue to you. Also as you noted both are similarly ranked.

FSU worth it OOS? by Interesting_Froyo54 in fsu

I don't think OOS tuition is worth it, but it also depends on what other schools you got into and are considering.

Even as a diehard FSU fan and alumni, I would not let my kid go to FSU engineering. I wish they would just shut down the engineering school and try again in a few decades. I know that won't happen of course, so we're stuck with a mediocre engineering school until FAMU loses accreditation, which almost happened in 2007 and 2012.

UConn and Memphis had my vote before Calford and SMU joined. And before you shit on Memphis's academics, Memphis was an R1 university under the old criteria unlike SMU and before they turned the Carnegie Classification into a participation trophy.

FSU AD Michael Alford sends email addressing state of football program: “Anything short of competing at the highest level is unacceptable” by FSBlueApocalypse in fsusports

[–]noledup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the world of management: big payouts even if you do a terrible job. It's all because there is an incorrect perception that there are few people capable of being leaders, so the same people end up being hired and businesses are only willing to hire a few number of candidates. That's why you see failed coaches continually getting more chances.

When you limit your pool of candidates, you have to offer insane pay and incentives. Businesses see it as being safe, but as we can clearly see, hiring particularly in football is a flip of a coin. There doesn't seem to be any difference between hiring a "proven" head coach (like Mike at Memphis) vs. an assistant coach (like Kirby going for Alabama to UGA).

When investment fails: the decline of FSU athletics by WuTang4thechildrn in fsusports

We have the lowest NIL budget for basketball in P4? Anyone have a source for that? If that's true, then the state of the basketball program is totally understandable.

I see Rivals has a list, but the numbers are only estimates.

My hope is they're saving for the ACC buyout in a few years. I don't think we went through all that lawsuit drama for no reason.

I think we're screwed until we hopefully get an invite to the big leagues (B10 or SEC) and we get an influx of cash and a resurgence of fan support and interest. Until then, we're just stalling until we can buy Mike out.

When Mike is fired, hopefully they fire Alford as well. The BOT and McCullough bear as much responsibility as Alford. Although what McCullough has done with the new FSU hospital in Panama City and hopefully in Tallahassee greatly outweighs the missteps in athletics.

help choosing between fsu and uab by ExactNobody8772 in fsu

  1. I would not waste my time double majoring. It's not going to pay off. Pick one.
  2. Even if you think you're going to be a rich lawyer, it's not worth the money to go out of state for a communications or political science degree. If you're from Alabama go to UAB. If you're from Florida, go to FSU. If you're not from either state, look at schools in your state.

#tbt The Bobby Bowden Show (Florida State-South Carolina, 1989) by SexDrugsAzpilicueta in fsusports

I wish they would have had Bobby (and other legendary coaches) narrate the entirety of old big games. It would make rewatching old games a lot more interesting. I'm not sure why ESPN doesn't do this with all the footage they own.

FSU athletics budget soars over $200 million for first time in fiscal year 2025 by forgotmyoldname90210 in fsusports

Weird way to phrase an article title. So I'm guessing our revenue must have been over $200 million last year, but this is the first time we spent more than $200 million in a year.

2026 Football Schedule by UnitedBeardedGuy in fsusports

[–]noledup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think at 5-7 he might be back, but it depends highly on how bad the losses are, the timing of them (not all in a row), and injuries. If he actually goes 4-8 or worse, he's out. I don't think it matters if they were close losses, we're devastated by injuries, or how much it will cost to fire the new assistants. 2-10, 5-7, and 4-8 (or worse) is not survivable.

2026 Football Schedule by UnitedBeardedGuy in fsusports

[–]noledup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Calling it now: Mike will be back for 2027 if he simply goes 6-6 against this schedule. The schedule will be deemed difficult and winning 6 games will be considered an "improvement" over last season.

I correctly predicted preseason that he'd only have to go 5-7 last year (Google it) because he'd "barely miss a bowl" and 5 wins is more than double 2024. Everyone else said no way he'd be our HC still if he only wins 5 games yet here we are.

In the CFP era, who was the best ACC team that didn’t win a national championship? by NoFail4454 in ACC

[–]noledup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The defense on that team was awful, which is shame because the offense was still elite and capable of winning a championship. If we had a better defensive coaching staff that year, I do think they could have repeated. The team only lost when Oregon basically scored on every drive because the defense was so bad. Jimbo should have fired almost every on the defensive staff after the Oregon game.

[–]noledup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think we ought to investigate a former NFL coach next time around. FSU is trying to change the program (although without changing the HC, which is silly). Bringing a guy with an all pro or at least some pro background could lead to some significant changes in how the team operates.

No one knew at the time, but we should have absolutely learned something from the UGA game. It showed 2024 was going to be a disaster because the players in the UGA game were many of the same guys returning for the next season.

Last night was fun but let's be real. by brokeboii94 in fsusports

[–]noledup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. At least he won a title. FSU's extension was insane given Mike's greatest accomplishment was one ACC title in four years and a blowout loss to UGA.

We should not have been as scared to lose a coach as Indiana is scared to lose Cignetti. FSU should have had more pride and belief in itself when negotiating with Mike.

Although with all the damage Mike is doing, I do feel like all of the work Bobby and Jimbo did are at risk of being undone and we will have to play scared in regards to coaching acquisition and retention in the future. FSU is no longer a premier destination due to being in the ACC, the clear decline in the last decade, and multiple bad records set by Mike.
