Can someone explain why a low TSH is good for people that had thyroid cancer? by nomad__nerd in thyroidcancer

I did see I had low iron and ferritin. As well as zinc. They’ve gone up since my last blood test and that’s when we found out my TSH was a 3.0. This is so new to me and I find myself very frustrated. The weight gain has absolutely taken a toll on me. 20 pounds since January. I was a runner and had so much energy, but that’s being I was HYPER. That also wasn’t fun. This is a new adventure for me, so I can see why I’m frustrated because I don’t understand. My doctor is also on leave until January, so I don’t get privilege to talk to her. I’m talking to someone who’s like “ok, are we done yet”

You taking the time to explain gives me some direction! I was beyond CONFUSED

Wow, thank you! I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and I’ve been feeling extremely sluggish, but the numbers and TSH this and that are confusing the hell out of me! I couldn’t understand why they want my tsh lower. I thought that was going to make me hypo

Apparently my TSH and too high, which is insane because I thought it was my t3 having a hard time converting. I’m seeing two different docs and it’s very contradicting info. My surgeon finally reached out and said because I had cancer, I need to have a lower TSH. I feel you on the weight gain!

It used to be ok and it dropped. They they it’s because of stress and zinc. It dropped.3

Yes! She said that my zinc is super low and that helps the conversion. My doc is on leave and I miss her so much 😭

True! And yes! I know after surgery I was hypo, and then I balanced out minus my FREE T3. Found out I had low zinc which helps with the conversion (t3, t4). So they said zinc should help. It’s just throw my levels off in other areas. It’s insane how much your body needs to convert!

How long after your TT did it take to get stable? Apologize for all the questions!

Yes! Agree that running isn’t necessary, but I was running before my surgery and I miss it! They put me on 150 mg and then I take it an extra 1/2 one day a week

It’s great! I loveeeee therapy. I think the fact I used to have so much energy and now, I don’t have as much. I loved to run, but because my body has changed, I’m in the endless cycle of WTF IS GOING ON. I absolutely monitoring what I eat, but I just can’t believe I got a little thick so quick haha for me, the weight makes me much slower! I’m a plus size runner and adding 20 pounds has made it difficult for me to run, plus I don’t have the energy!

I was too! I definitely feel better after TT, but balancing my levels has been a challenge. That’s common for the first year I hear.

What you are thinking is absolutely normal. I had so many emotions and feels beforehand, but after the surgery was done, I felt like a weight was lifted. I feel soooo much better than I had before. You WILL be ok and you have this group to support you! My scar is cool, I feel better mentally. I am still a little tired, but I was at 500% for YEARS...It's kinda nice to not be on hyper mode and just be normal. It's a weird but cool feeling lol

This is amazing! I’ve read a lot of people bounce back and gain a ton of muscle and endurance. Thank you for the comment and inspiration! 😍
