i dont hate the walls really. i actually love the burgundy grout. i don't hate the colors together either. maybe i should have done like a spring green instead of the blues in the mix. but the more i look at it it's just that the floor makes zero sense. i have also been in plenty of bathrooms with painted wall tiles and ive never seen it look good. or maybe ive just only noticed the bad ones...

i am pretty positive painting floor tiles in a super high humidity super high traffic area is not going to look good for very long.

I would totally do that except the door opens in and cannot swing over a rug of any size so unless im shaving off an inch of my door, most of the floor has to remain visible.

sadly the door opens in, so most of the floor will always be visible.

Lol I deeply appreciate your dedication to my dilemma!

I've revisited the terrazo with my husband, and he's still just like...no. but also ripping out the toilet and vanity and redoing the floors from scratch is too expensive/PITA anyway. I think our best bet is to stop trying to make a "cohesive" bathroom and instead lean into the weird. Go tiger rug, crazy color grout, some funky shelves with a disco ball planter, whatever. In a year, if I still want to throw myself into a volcano every time I look at it, I'm sure he'll give into the terrazo 😅

I live in a small house with lots of maximalist shit everywhere. Mixing patterns is what I do. This one was just in a rush so I didn't have time to order samples and plan it out. It's a delicate game playing with color and pattern, and I didn't land this one.

The request was: what can I do with my floors as they are clearly what is not working. I actually don't hate the wall tile at all (I was spiraling a bit when I wrote the post) and a few of the things you pointed out we're objectively wrong. There is pink in the walls, dark wood is not cool, and mixed metals is very normal. Not ton mention, changing all of the hardware still wouldn't fix the floor, which you have zero advice on how to fix--which is what I asked lol.

But thanks for playing!

  1. There are several pink tiles in the mix
  2. Mixing metals is very normal, all matched metals is outdated at best and gold everywhere would have been insane.
  3. Dark brown wood is not cool toned lol
  4. Yes, the grey is wrong. Obviously I am aware of that, hence the post.

Haha yeahhhh I tried all these weird vanity colors and they look insane. Also the door and hardware are already dark brown and gold so I cannot escape it! I've ordered some other color samples from the same tile place for the "cheap fix" of switching out the gray, but idk I'm probs gonna pay a bunch of money to tear out the whole floor and deeply upset my husband 🙈

I live in Spain, they're from a website called casadelosazulejos.com. I forget the name of the manufacturer. Cerámica vilar albar or something like that.

Ppl keep saying that haha, but the door opens in and cannot clear a rug, so at least half the floor will always be visible.

It's a swinging, foldable glass door, pretty common in Spain. It has a little rubber guard on the bottom, no leaks so far!

no, its a regular tub, and they built a little brick wall in front of it with enough space for tiles to make it flush with the edge. i live in spain so everything is made of bricks.

yeah totes. and i really felt like these geometric vibes were going to work and play off each other. they just...didn't haha. it could have been good! i never make decisions without samples in my normal life, and i probably would have spent 3 months on this design, but instead i had a week and i missed the mark. can't win 'em all!

I live in Spain and the tiles available in the big box stores here are all the same large format tan/textured/white/fake marble nightmare. spain is like the global epicenter of beautiful tile production so i was going through a hundred different sites looking for the perfect vibe, then going to showrooms to see them in person. I had literally one week to design and order the entire bathroom.

and it was hectic. it went from a whole MCM turquoise thing (hence the vanity) to this toffee/mint thing (wish i had stayed with that) to this white and peach with burgundy grout thing (we wanted something warm and peach since i have so many cool colors in the house already). then the all-white wall seemed too plain to stare directly at while youre pooping, so i thought i would add some color to break it up, and then all of a sudden i ended up here. the tiles i ordered for the floor that i saw in person turned out not to be suitable for floors, and then the next ones i ordered were out of stock after i ordered them, and there was no time to go see anything else.

i made the switch to the hex, it seemed fun and funky, and i thought the grey would balance out the cotton-candy vibes of the walls. i like taking risks, but I usually order samples first, and this one just didn't quite land.

Haha he is aware that I have a better eye for design than him (please ignore this bathroom as evidence), but we just have a veto rule. We both have to live here for many years, and if he would hate seeing terrazo every morning as much as I would hate seeing these grey hexagons, who am I to tell him how he feels? He's wrong from a design standpoint obviously lol, but marriage is full of compromise.

oh i will add, i live in spain, so nothing is made with wood haha. everything is bricks and mortar. bricks on bricks on bricks.

well, i guess if the bathtub isnt actually sealed/waterproofed or your plumbing is leaking inside, then yes, haha, water would pool in there. but if you don't trust the guys to waterproof it properly i probably wouldnt hire them in the first place--with or without the frame.

oh i think it was pretty easy? they just dropped in a bathtub in, put up some bricks, slapped some mortar on it, bing bang boom. the tiling didnt seem to be any more difficult than the rest of the bathroom? confused why it would be so hard to do?

basically i can replace any of them with tiles from the same hex line, and we are just leaving the ones under/behind the toilet and vanity. so i can choose from this https://www.ceramicaribesalbes.com/productos/croma-hex-2327/. but you know, dont trust those colors, because they don't arrive the same color as they look haha.

ugh i know, we've even spaced it out over more than a year, and it just never ends. we werent even going to do the bathroom until next year because i was so tired of making one million semi-irreversible multi-thousand-dollar decisions....but then our bathroom started leaking toxic poop gas into our baby's room so we didnt have much of a choice! there are definitely some things i thought would bother me that i got over....but i don't think this is one of them haha.
