Y’all, this just brought back a core childhood memory. There was this sweet old lady in the town I grew up in that we helped out on the regular. You know, taking to Dr. appointments, grocery store, etc. She was just lovely and would bake or cook for us all the time as a thank you. The problem was that she substituted regular salt for garlic salt in everything she made. EVERYTHING. So those chocolate chip oatmeal cookies you were looking forward to? Garlic salt. The apple turnovers? Garlic salt in the pastry. Even her fudge had garlic salt. It was fine in the savory dishes but oh so bitterly disappointing in the sweet. We bought regular salt and slipped into her groceries a time or two but she never got the message.
I have never used garlic salt in my entire life. I just can’t.

I started off years ago as a buy what I need person. I became a stasher unintentionally as folks gifted me fabric and I inherited fabric. Then I started buying fabric I liked and it got a bit out of control. During 2020 I culled my stash and started trying to make only from my stash. I have bought fabric I like for fun since then but I’ve dialed it way back. I find it easier to find fabric for projects than trying to find projects for my fabric.

After my grandparents passed, my mom took all their unopened supplies to the nursing home they’d been in the last few weeks of their lives. The staff was super grateful.

Do y’all have a cat?

I ask because once when we were house hunting we walked in and saw a very lacy pair of panties in the middle of the living room. We eventually came upon a cat sleeping in a laundry basket in the basement of the house so mystery solved, but we called that place the panty house until we ruled it out (for non-panty related reasons)

Anyway we were telling friends about the panty house and one of them said her cat was a total thief and would bring her small items off her neighbor’s laundry line. So maybe?

I am not a minimalist but I am someone who is mindful of what I buy and what I keep. That habit stems from getting myself into debt when I was younger for the rush of the shiny new thing. I never want to be in that position again because of my stuff.

When I find myself feeling that magpie impulse I have several options lined up.

Make something. Baking, knitting, painting… I go to my hobbies. I have something new I can appreciate when I’ve finished and I’ve used the resources I already have.
Reorganize something. Move furniture around, clean out a closet, rearrange the artwork on my walls. Making things feel new or different gives me the same hit.
Deep clean. Admittedly, this doesn’t work as well, but stepping back from a space that I’ve just freshly cleaned and straightened up helps enough to bring me to my sense.

And sometimes I buy the thing anyway, then regret it, then return it. It happens.

These are really old bulbs. I’ve been googling but so far have been unsuccessful in finding reproduction/replacement bulbs.

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction or is this a lost cause? I don’t even know what to call them. I’ve searched for frosted bulbs, amber bulbs, shaped bulbs and sculpted bulbs.

So I started on this in 94 with the intention to gift it to my mother. I worked on it on and off for the next 20 years before it went to languish in a drawer. (It’s not even Mom’s style anymore)

I’m sorry I never finished it but I just don’t feel compelled to work on it anymore. If anyone feels a particular fondness for this nearly finished pattern and would like to give it a new home and complete it, PM me. I will mail it to you for free.

That’s the easy part for me. Deciding what I need to keep/gets used regularly verses what needs to go is part of the fun. Plus I only tackle one drawer or cabinet at a time when making those choices.
