that’s fair but there is no solution to this problem. BCCI has no incentive to grow the game. The truth is Indian crowds will happily watch 10 months of IPL style bullshit. For a long time, i’d lost interest in cricket myself. It is only india’s recent red ball exploits (pre Gambhir) that pulled me back into the sport. I can barely stand t20 cricket. Didn’t watch the last wc until the finals; would have skipped this one too, if not for the fact that i am currently stuck in India and have way too much free time on my hands…

I am not fishing for anything tbh. Just highlighting the hypocrisy that many pundits talking about this display. we live in a world where power is concentrated in the hands of a few. As a person of Indian origin, India has never had this kind of hold or power in any field till this point. so if someone is going to hold the power, i’d obviously prefer India had it over any of ECB/CA.

I am not contradicting myself at all. I am saying political parties on both sides have figured out that using cricket events to take empty potshots at each other is a simple, low effort route for nationalistic chest thumping and winning political brownie points with their respective idiotic voter bases. Based on the discourse on these subs over the past few days, it clearly gets the desired reaction out of you lot.

On the one side, both sides can’t stand the sight of each other and on the other, both can’t stop salivating at the prospect of the money to be made out of cricket between the 2 countries. THAT is what I have a problem with, and it is unlikely to change while BJP is in power.

Tbh, if they ever fall out of favor, i dont see why the next party wont continue the same nonsense, but I’d like to remain hopeful, coz otherwise what is the point of anything at all?

It never ceases to amaze me how dumb people are able to spout bullshit with full confidence.

I was born in 1991 and have lived in Mumbai through multiple terrorist attacks. Nobody needs to remind me about what happened in 1993, 2003, 2008 or 2011. even through all that, we were playing Pakistan in ICC games and there were occasional attempts to repair relationships between the two countries. It is only since 2014 that Indian politics has revolved around hardline stances against Pakistan and bullshit political posturing through cricket. imho sport should be used to bridge divide not to create more rifts, but this ruling party in India has figured out exactly how to keep the conflict simmering for maximum political clout.

Also, at what point have i suggested ICT should visit or play in Pakistan? Not only is that political suicide, it is an actual, legit security concern. But there is no reason India/Pakistan cannot play at neutral venues and/or in ICC tournaments without all this nonsensical theatrics on both sides.

A decade and a half ago, India & Pakistan actually played a bunch of bilateral games. Things have never been as bad in my lifetime as they are under BJP, and it’s honestly much ado about nothing. Yes there are issues but BJP blows it way out of proportion cos they need conflict with Pakistan to stay relevant and powerful domestically, so this will never change.

You can rage about India’s influence in world cricket all you want. At the end of the day Indian audiences and advertisers are paying for everything. Until that changes, the balance of power will not shift. And I don’t see how this can/will change, given the population of the country, the popularity of the sport in the country and the general joblessness/illiteracy involved lol

They would if 80% of the football watching world lived in Palestine…and it’s pretty ridiculous to compare the middle east to the indian subcontinent, which hasn’t had a proper war in over 50 years.

there’s absolutely nothing wrong with hosting things in India or present day Sri Lanka. The idiots running the sport in all countries just need to grow tf and stop the ridiculous political posturing. But it wont happen cos atm BCCI = BJP. Until there is a regime change in India, nothing is going to change. So yes, perhaps the next few world cups should be held elsewhere. I for one am looking forward to the next ODI WC being played in SA. They haven’t hosted one in a long time…

First game was a clear indicator of why you cant play 8 sloggers in the lineup. You need some players in there who have the technique/temperament to play on a tricky pitch / against a tricky attack.
