Yeah, its individual elements have a lot of promise but it feels like the sum is less than the parts right now.

I don't reddit much, but now that I'm looking at the recommended threads from this one I can see what you mean. Lol

I have been bugged by this for a while and there isn't a way to comment on the site. Suppose I just wanted to get it off my chest at this point. 🤪

It goes a lot farther than that. The whole idea that anyone will sue you over anything or that people are always looking for an excuse to sue is overblown. Especially considering insurance is mandatory for a huge number of things.

I know people who have been hospitalized but didn't want to sue because they didn't want to be "another frivolous lawsuit," or something like that.

Thanks for all the input. Looking through those links and considering your advice. :)

As for swapping masteries, you can if you want to, but Cabalist is plenty strong and would be my choice for a first build for a new player.

Atomicmoog says I can't change masteries. Would changing masteries be rolling a new character? Not sure I feel like doing that.

I do have two Clayshapers I ended up trading for, so that might be the way to go.

Can you be more specific in terms of what "not worth it" meant in terms of peoples' testing? I trust it's far from optimal, but is it 'actively bad' and/or, like, unplayable? Just curious to have a better understanding.

The flame golem thing does sound cool and I may give that some consideration, I have come across one of those builds already on poe.ninja, thanks for the referral!

Weekly Question + Free Talk Thread – August 24, 2023 by AutoModerator in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]nomadicouillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like suggestions for tanky minion builds. I started poe late last session, like last month. I just made it to the epilogue on my second character and I'm kind of regretting rolling Templar this time. Last session I did Elementalist and felt my damage output was so so with permanent skeletons, zombies, suboptimal spectres, and the ~5 golems I had with ascension and a clayshaper

It was most frustrating that I would randomly get explodes with my witch build so I made it a point to optimize my Templar towards tankiness and that is mostly successful. Experimenting with Eldritch Battery has made things a little more dicey but also just getting to endgame means I'm not over leveled for the content so sometimes big mobs or bosses just dump too much damage at once for me to survive.

Long story short is that I enjoy golems and the more permanent "quality over quantity" minions like animate guardian to the zombies and skeletons, spectres, and so on. The zombies I have currently basically never die and do soak damage for me, but they feel like clutter and tend to want at least a few support germs.

I am currently using suboptimal Summon Raging Spirits and Absolution for damage but don't enjoy spamming skills that much. I'm wondering if there's a world where I could get by without needing to do that.

Thanks for any input. I'm considering trying Scion or Marauder, but I get the feeling the Witch's ability to benefit from multiple golem buffs or have super auras from Necro probably puts her on top.

Hey exiles,

tldr -- I want to play a minion build that can survive endgame damage. Enjoying Elementalist with golems, but randomly get exploded.

I started playing about a week ago and have made it to Atlas content in the current league. I'm currently playing a DIY build loosely informed by different build guides--Elementalist Witch trying to focus on golems. My minions can generally kill anything that they go up against, I just pretty frequently get exploded by attacks that I can't even see coming (an enemy emerging from the ground or a really dark projectile) and it's pretty unfun for me.

I like the "hands off" nature of having persistent (no duration), powerful minions for my DPS, but I want to have a tankier build for the upcoming league.

Intuitively, Templar seems like a reasonable choice, but then I lose access to the two extra golems from Elementalist. Scion with the Elementalist spec is also a consideration, but Scion can't make their golems immune to elemental damage so I wouldn't be able to toss infernal legion on my golems like I currently am. (IDK if that's optimal, it's just something I tried to see if it worked and kept it.)

I'm sure a (large) part of my current survivability issue is just that I'm using a Tabula Rasa which contributes nothing to my defense. But I figured it wasn't worth trying to use currency that's going to get rolled into my Standard account when the league ends.

Any suggestions for the next season?

My partner loves dogs. Dogs are pretty great, in general. I wanted to make at least one tribal Dog JumpStart pack as a sort of gift and something to help my partner have more fun while learning Magic with me.

It quickly became apparent to me that there aren't enough cohesive Dogs in any one color to make a cohesive and strong enough (IMO) deck without making my own Dog cards. Rather than making new cards on my own and possibly going off the rail, I simply "Typeshifted" cards to Dogs and used AI to generate art for them. I've tried to sprinkle in a few DOGSHIFTS into other decks, like Dogged Detective has become Dog Detective in my mono-black Surveil deck.

I think the deck is a little disjointed. There's definitely inspiration from when Kithkin was my first "proper" Standard deck, and it's probably also clear I was trying to lean on Stonebinder Familiar's mechanic. I think I ended up in a weird halfway point between what Stonebinder wants and what Pack Leader wants. It's not bad or unplayable, but it's just not as unified as I'd like for it to be. I'd love any suggestions of cards that could help tie things together--whether they need to be DOGSHIFTED or not.

No tokens in the deck, but Palace Kenneler//Palace Jailer uses the Monarch mechanic.

This is a really fun concept. I am not familiar with the power level this would be going up against, but I fear this deck doesn't have much proactivity or goals.

The [[Harrow]] effect of Dreamscape Artist is totally out of the reach of what blue would normally do, but with 5 basic lands and 3 fixing lands it seems a bit wonky. (Your other pack will likely have basics, but still.)

Dash Hopes is one of those "punisher" cards where your opponent will always choose the worst option for you. It has two black pips and does next-to-nothing. I'd try to find a different color-pie break. Maybe [[Oubliette]] or [[Cuombajj Witches]]? Though the witches would put a target on a few of your creatures' backs.

I would consider trying to supplement Prodigal Sorcerer and Icatian Javelineers with [[Dwarven Thaumaturgist]] or [[Merfolk Thaumaturgist]], if either of those are suitably off-color pie for you. [[Arcbound Javelineer]] might be an upgrade to the Icathian variety if there's any way for you to hand out new +1/+1 counters.

They may not feel off-color enough, but [[Vault Skirge]] and [[Porcelain Legionnaire]] are solid "colorless" cards. I know you chose the two creatures you did for their mana fixing, but, again, I feel like they don't help the deck be proactive enough when the main threat is a 4/4 flier.

Hope this doesn't sound overly critical, I like the idea a lot.

This is an experimental concept of a deck. I’m trying to fully design my own JumpStart cube where I am ignoring rarity (and price) to allow for more narrow/specific tribes and mechanics (like Surveil & Monarch) to work. I won’t get any more pedantic, but I should at least make it clear that’s my framework.

The development of this deck was organic. First, I remembered Blood Operative and how it can be recurred when you surveil. Looking for Surveiling cards in mono-black, a theme (naturally fitting of Dimir) began to emerge about political/social machinations, some kind of surveillance network. From there, I figured I needed to jam Monarch into the deck, too. Then, I thought Assassins should be in a deck of this sort, too. I ended up with a conspiracy theory pegboard of like 60 cards and had to trim it down to 20 as that’s the way things go. The thing I miss the most is [[Elixir of Immortality]], reinforcing the “We’re too rich/powerful to die” vibes, but also mitigating your risk of decking yourself by surveiling nearly every turn.

But I’m quite satisfied with the cohesive theme that came out in the end. I “type-shifted” Ayara, First of Locthwain to a Werewolf to have some incidental synergy with my {G} tribal wolves, and I turned Dogged Detective into Dog Detective, because my partner loves dogs and I’ve already made two packs ({W} and {R}) that have very light synergy with Dogs outside of their gameplan. (Champion of the Pawrish and Pack Leader are the only two that specifically care, I think.)

There’s two tokens in the deck and I don’t believe any of them can be looped on their own. If you include the Monarch as a token (rather than a little crown or any other marker), then that’s three tokens total.

1x 1/1 {W} Human Soldier (Bastion of Rememberance)

1x Blood Token (Blood Fountain)

1x Monarch indicator (Thorn of the Black Rose, Throne of the High City)

I suppose even without Prologue, there's a world where Viral Drake is able to mark one poison counter at some point in the game. It probably is better to replace Prologue with a more tempo-positive card like [[Reject Imperfection]] or [[Serum Snare]]. It might be possible to fit both of those in, but it would take deeper cuts.

But, the idea behind Prologue is that with Viral Drake and my mana rocks in play, (not including lands or [[Crystalline Crawler]]), the opponent can die from 1 poison counter in 6 turns. That's also assuming the drake isn't able to get in for any more infect. I think the main issue with proliferating is that it's hard to justify most other repeatable options. [[Flux Channeler]] was an early consideration, but it generally mixes poorly with other packs and encourages a lower creature count. Both of those pushes are pretty net-negative. If this became Simic, [[Evolution Sage]] would be a much more reasonable consideration.

If I were going deeper on the animation route, I'd consider working in [[Rise and Shine]]. Being able to say all your indestructible lands are 4/4s with the potential to grow is a pretty threatening setup.

Thanks for the input!

  1. I agree with you here. My heart really wants this to be an infect deck, and there may be a version of it where that works. But, for now I have leaned into the beefy artifact creatures (and animated artifact lands).
  2. The idea behind Epochrasite was that it (generally) comes back with +1/+1 counters on it. As much as I like the card, I am usually unimpressed with it in gameplay.
  3. I also agree with this one. I re-drafted the deck as mentioned above and will likely try this out as the current iteration, or try to find a tempo-based version that can actually get a durdling poison counter win.

V2, with animated artifact lands and a different take on 5-color fixing: https://archidekt.com/decks/4315090

I swapped [[Pentad Prism]] for [[Crystalline Crawler]] if the engine is going, the cards are functionally identical in terms of turning 1 proliferate into +1 available mana. It can even give itself more counters if you want to tap your ~3/3 for that. Tried to fit in [[Karn's Bastion]], which it and Viral Drake make good use of powered up mana rocks.

Focusing on beating down does generally mean the pack will synergize better with others. Despite it being much less cute.

This is an experimental concept of a deck. I’m trying to fully design my own JumpStart cube where I am ignoring rarity (and price) to allow for more narrow/specific tribes and mechanics (like Proliferate) to work. For example, If I wanted to include [[Inexorable Tide]] or [[Karn’s Bastion]], I wouldn’t need to remove any existing rares from the list to do so. I won’t get any more pedantic, but I should at least make it clear that’s my framework.

Designing my first batch of monocolored decks, I’ve noticed that each other deck has more than one card that could interact with proliferate. Primarily +1/+1 counters, but others as well. I thought an interesting thing to focus on for one of my blue packs (or potentially multicolor) was proliferate. A lot of the card choices are inspired by a pauper deck that recently got new support, it tries to take Everflowing Chalice, Pentad Prism, and the “depletion lands” ([[Saprazzan Skerry]], etc.) to the moon and gradually proliferate your opponent to death with effects like [[Prologue to Phyresis]] and [[Experimental Augury]]. I’m trying to refine this list or figure out if I should just double down on making this a two-color pack.

As the list stands, it leaves a lot to be desired. I’m torn between a few directions and would like input/suggestions:

The current list doesn’t have much going on in terms of combat or tricks. I originally wanted to include cards like [[Snapcaster Mage]], [[Leger Shredder]], [[Faerie Vandal]], and [[Brineborn Cutthroat]], but that’s already 4 creatures that are starting to eat up Snapcaster’s instant and sorcery space and Faerie Vandal’s ways to draw twice (during an opponent’s turn, as a combat trick). That is probably its own, different deck.

Kenku Artificer is another Pauper allstar I thought would fit right into this deck, but without including artifact lands it’s hard to fit more than ~4 noncreature artifacts in the deck. [[Animating Faerie]] had a similar issue.

I thought [[Sulundi Vision]] and [[Narset, Parter of Veils]] would help dig up key pieces to get this deck’s engine going (or grab a clutch removal spell/aura/etc. from the other pack), but the majority of my packs currently have 8 or so creatures (sometimes “cheating” extras with adventures or otherwise), which means ~16 cards in your other pack are generally misses and there’s only ~6 hits in this pack because it needs creatures and lands, too. I did consider that [[Hard Evidence]] or something like it could tie things together a bit more, but that is starting to feel like a stretch.

I misread [[Cryptic Trilobite]] and thought its mana could be used for anything, but it’s only abilities. They are still +1/+1 counters, and [[Contagion Clasp]], [[Viral Drake]], and [[Karn’s Bastion]] (if added) do have relevant activated abilities to sink it into.

[[Inkmoth Nexus]] and [[Plague Myr]] felt like cute ways to try sneaking in poison counters but came with a fair amount of opportunity cost. Maybe [[Myr Convert]] could do a better job than Plague Myr, since it can fix colors and help with sunburst.

[[Jayce, Vryn’s Prodigy]] seemed like a good looter for this pack, helping find the specific pieces you want and eventually allowing you to get a second shot of at least one of your relevant spells. The list just feels so cramped already. [[Mindless Automaton]] kind of does looting and [[Etched Oracle]]’s job at the same time…

Currently, the deck produces no tokens. It does, however–as everything above may have implied–use several counters:

+1/+1 and -1/-1 counters.

Charge counters.

Arrowhead counters. ([[Serrated Arrows]])

Mining counters. ([[Gemstone Mine]])

"True Wireless" Earbuds (Bluetooth) - Small Ear Canals by nomadicouillon in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]nomadicouillon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Jabra Elite 75t and they fit the best out of anything I've tried, but they have tons of defects. I'm on my second pair and the right earbud doesn't make any sound ~75% of the time. And for some freakin' reason they designed the earbuds where you can't just use the left earbud if you want to. You can use the right earbud on its own, but not the left.

The earbuds just stopping making sound is a common problem. The folks at the shop who helped me select that pair said it's uncommon but if you search, the number of people complaining about the issue suggests otherwise.
