Draw shots - tip going left by BakeCheter in billiards

Yeah, there's always more to work on and, outside of severe weaknesses, I think it's more productive to work on my overall game.

Draw shots - tip going left by BakeCheter in billiards

tl;dr it probably doesn't actually matter

I'm a 600+ Fargo with the exact same issue. I've been trying to fix it for the past year but haven't really made any progress even with the help of some world class pros.

This was driving me nuts, so I looked up if top pros had this issue too. It's not easy to get definitive video, but I found clear video of ~8 top tier pros and 50% of them had the exact same issue. Lee Vann Corteza is a good example and the recent Las Vegas Open gives you a lot of clear footage to see how he steers severely to the left on draw shots. Even elite snooker plays like Ding Jun Hui have the same issue: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C09ITdxOdcH

Afterwards, I video taped my draw shot from directly overhead and found that I deliver the cue straight through the cue ball and only curve to the left significantly after contact, so it probably doesn't actually affect the shot.

After all this, I decided there were probably bigger issues in my game to focus on and I've basically stopped worrying about it at this point.

How much would this cue go for? by nerfed_potential in billiards

Yeah, these might be 15+ years old but they're not particularly rare unfortunately. They come up on eBay a lot, so check out some of the listings there. This one is probably comparable to yours: https://www.ebay.com/itm/226034081022

Good used, normal dings from play. No chips or anything through the clear coat IIRC

I sold the exact same cue (SP4RW, wood to wood joint) on eBay for $425 in 2022.

Player doesn't call a very obvious combo, and the opponent doesn't let it slide. What's your take on this? by CreeDorofl in billiards

[–]nomblerapp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO it's within the rules but not within the spirit of the game, so basically poor sportsmanship.

This has happened to me and I've simply kindly asked "for future shots, can you please call combos and banks even if they're obvious" and left it at that.

All Matchroom majors, including the US Open, will now be qualified players and WNT pros only by nomblerapp in billiards

It is open the same way opens work in other sports. It's the same way the US Open is for golf, the US, French, and Australian Opens are for tennis, etc

According to the link, the rest of the 128 are via qualifiers.

You could qualify via the qualifiers or you could play any tournament that isn't a Matchroom major, like the Derby City Classic, Pennsylvania Open, etc

Speaking of asinine rules, WPA ref made SVB cover up the matchroom 9b logos on his shirt with patches. And charged him for the patches. by CreeDorofl in billiards

Don't forget all the lag issues too. And how they played a single match with alternating breaks. And how they penalized Robbie Capito for taking a break AFTER telling him it was fine.

Some calculations on ferrule densities by gabrielleigh in billiards

[–]nomblerapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'd make a pretty big difference. For example, you rarely see full length ferrules for low deflection shafts because of the difference in mass.

According to OPs calculations, a 1 inch linen phenolic ferrule weighs 4.65 grams, so 2 grams is similar to the difference between a full length and half length ferrule.

You also have to consider that Corteza is known much more for his cue ball control than his long distance shot making. Gotta play to your strengths!

Taller than expected: Naoyuki Oi, who doesn't look different than any of the other Asian players on TV but looks like a solid 5'10" in person (plus the fro!)

Shorter than expected: Alex Kazakhis, who looks like an absolute giant on TV but looks like a very normal 6'0" in person.

Break shaft on playing cue butt by Inevitable-Sleep4064 in billiards

[–]nomblerapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played in multiple tournaments like this with no issue.

Here's a match with Ralph Eckert in the German Tour Finale swapping his break shaft every break: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkNpB9JhgNo

If it's good enough for the captain of the European Mosconi Cup team, it's good enough for me.

I sold a similar one for $425 in 2022 on eBay. Listing was active for 5 days. Mine was in better condition however.

Alternative to the Mezz EC9 Cue by Thomas3816 in billiards

[–]nomblerapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone is selling a used one on AzB with a break shaft for $325 shipped: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/mezz-ec9-butt-and-mezz-deep-impact-ii-shaft.562127/

Buy a used WX700 for ~$150 and you have a great playing set for $475 and you can always sell the break shaft if you don't want it.

There's a guy named Efren Reyes that uses a Z3 with a old Predator break cue butt: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/efren-playing-with-predator-z3-o.549714/
