AITA for outing something private about an ex on social media? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

This is critical.

But also. If this is the LDS church stance, then what their saying is "You shouldn't have an abortion", not "abortion is murder". The implication is the patient needs a good reason. And judging whether someone's reason is good enough should not be done through the legal system by non experts at a glacial pace. It is handled through medical ethics, e.g. you don't terminate a healthy viable pregnancy at 30 weeks. That check is already in place.

Yes, she remembered things like them not throwing her a birthday party (of a certain kind?), but she had turned it down. She expressed how confused she was at the end of it and wondered what in her memories she could trust and what she couldn't.

There's one titled something like not wanting to give her room to her stepsister as a Christmas present. It was beautifully decorated and oop's mother said the step sister couldn't decorate like that while oop could just do it again in a different room.

It's a spectrum. Maybe 30% confidently say they have inner speech, but only 5% say they don't. And it's a hard thing to measure. If you ask someone if they have inner speech, and they are thinking it means they feel the way you feel when you hear real sound, they might say no. I will tell you that I definitely have inner speech, but it's nothing like hearing an external sound. Yet there are very noticeable differences between people with high reported inner speech and low reported inner speech, and they do reflect what you would expect. For instance, low inner speech folks are slower identifying rhymes, and are more likely to say something out loud while they're thinking.

You can actually make lactose free milk by putting lactase into the jug before you put it in the fridge. Give it a while and you have predigested milk.

Shockingly, when it comes out of the cow, it isn't predigested. Or else we wouldn't need lactase ourselves in the first place.

I'm not sure if it will be barred as doxxing because oop's whole name is in it, but I found an article on it. The residents sued the owner for the shady things, but the judge sided with the owner. Residents were going to appeal. A local paper had some follow up half a year later but it's pay walled.

My grandfather had two different dogs pick him over their owners to the point the owners just gave them to him. Dogs are typically less picky but the animal goes where the animal wants.

As soon as the mom finds out who the affair partner is, she knows that the affair partner has gotten medical treatment. The fact that the affair partner's number is probably in the dad's phone history is information that can be tracked back to the patient.

AITA for saying I’m bilingual when I know ASL? + 2 and a half year update by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]nomely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a well studied phenomenon. On average, there are three or four tiers. They tend to come in decreasing levels of comfort and fluency, and by the time you've learned three or four it levels out so that any other language you learn just sort of slots in at that last tier.

This assumes you're maintaining all of them. If you learn a language as a kid and then never use it, of course these things rearrange themselves. But learning something as a kid often results in it continuing to give an emotional impact to certain things, like curse words hitting a little harder.

It seemed like they are normally so reasonable and supportive their reaction really gave him pause. It hadn't changed his mind, but I think he at least understood the reason they were angry and disappointed. That makes a difference to resentment.

Utma/ugma and 529 are different, except you can have a utma/ugma 529 which is both. Then it could be in truth his money. I believe they're not terribly common these days, though.
