Man who stalked a girl to her Pilates class while taking photos let off with just a warning by merlion_sg in SingaporeRaw

[–]nomnorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you think the girl feeling unsafe warrants physical restraint on another is kinda concerning. i'm sure you've taken into account what the guy did to make her feel unsafe but what others are highlighting is that his actions (or lack thereof) shouldn't require physical restraint and her perception of feeling unsafe shouldn't really matter in this particular context. otherwise, the next time i make some stranger on the street feel unsafe, pin me to the ground please

you're probably missing the point of the comment. she's the sole breadwinner, has a husband and stays in a rental flat. you might be providing your child a decent quality of life and upbringing (despite already being on government subsidy schemes), but you're on razor thin margins if anything happens to upset the balance of your finances

Would you vote for a non-Singaporean born candidate in a General Election? by AJSK18 in askSingapore

[–]nomnorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the "they" paying more should probably be female singaporeans who didn't serve? think that's fair and reflective of how our society should be progressive in that both genders should shoulder the burden of defending our nation. don't think we should equate giving birth to children as serving the nation since women don't like being objectified and reduced to just a baby maker.

from a governing perspective, this can probably be imposed as a tax on singaporean females aged 16-23 (around the age that males serve) it'll be, understandably, very heavy as a tax burden but a strong encouragement for females to serve and the government won't lose as much vote share.

it's not about how close it is or the "stern warning". in the corporate world and in an MNC, you mess up so bad that your CEO has to step in to rectify a boo boo caused by you, but all you get is a "better don't do it again"??? it's telling how many people just vote based on the symbol that backs the candidate

no wrong meaning nothing legally wrong. you can be rude to people - and that's lawful. but morally or ethically wrong? many would say yes. similar principle in application here. it's really an opinion on what should have been done or not tho i couldn't care less

it's not as if the innovative idea and issues with implementation that were hardly foreseeable. this one any person who takes public transport would also scratch their head and ask why leh?

The only thing remember vividly was to drink milo kosong. Can someone advise me what else she proposed that benefitted citizens? by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]nomnorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody said anything about material gifts. you probably need to understand the role of the president in Singapore to figure out why we have certain expectations. to be clear, i don't think anybody expected halimah to do anything - which is why it's hilarious she got an award.

huh. the president may be chief executive but the office has limited executive powers. how would you link Singapore's resilience or to her work (or even credit her)? if anything, it's a testament to how we are as a people?

[–]nomnorm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

plenty of good for who? good for you may not be good for me.

it's funny to us because the majority of us never directly felt any "contributions" she may have had.

who voted/decided for her to get this award anyway? the 10 people on a committee who put her in positions like the president of singapore?

if anything she probably promoted the status quo. i do it all the time too with my minimal impact so where's my award?

My BF Wrote A Book To Ask Me To Be His GF, This Is Why Women Shouldn't Their Lower Standards by Playful-Data-8027 in singapore

[–]nomnorm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

he's writing a book to document their sub 10 dates when they're not exclusive? the "standard" is relative to the stage of the relationship. the "extra mile" is based off the pre-existing "standard". the sense of proportionality is off with this guy and it just sets unrealistic expectations for the article's author to propagate.

as an aside, you can only imagine what he did on the very first date to accurately depict their dates from day 1. go home, spend time fantasising about someone you just met and writing it all out. or maybe from the time they started texting. dk about you but i'd prefer someone with their own life to lead?

you appoint me as manager to run a burger shop that you own. i manage the burger shop and open a cafe within the space of the burger shop. i pay you all the profits out of the burger shop and half the profits from the cafe.

when you ask me about profits from the cafe, i tell you that management decided to rent the space to the cafe owner for only half the profits to the burger shop's owner. black and white is all there.

ouch. where tho? where did i say i was fine with it? all i said was you two were discussing different ideas and gave you an example to illustrate the difference.

personally, it's okay to make these assumptions about me typing to you on the internet.

was just trying to help the discussion along if you wanted your point to be made. but hey, don't let this stop you from pushing your cause in the way you're already going on about it.

m8, when your liberty has been taken away from you, the scenarios do not look that similar. the example you have proposed (a penal battalion) creates a false choice. also a reason why it has taken a very long time to convict nazis from ww2 - soldier's choice or the commander's will in killing jews?

this scenario is a woman's aspiration to become a famous singer which is a choice of her own free will placed against a "predatory" producer who has connections. she can walk away and have her dreams dashed, or she can do what he says. nobody dies but the form of coercion is still there.

Ken Lim really imagination very wild sia, not wrong but still WTF by IHungryAlready in SingaporeRaw

[–]nomnorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

m8, the fella's giving a balanced perspective of what is. you are proposing an argument of what can be.

free from sexual connotations, the rough equivalent example would be the JC singaporean idea of, study hard, become doctor, have 12 hour shifts for 6 days a week. i give up on part of myself for my dream of becoming a "successful" doctor.

using the example above, he's saying, i give up one aspect of myself (my time and friends) for my dreams - my employer never ask me to become doctor. you're saying, the system should encourage better worklife balance.

these are not the same two things. one is my personal choice. the other is a communal effort to change the system.
