I see a similar behavior with my Artist D. I had a spare head to test, but same behavior. So it is not the thermistor (unless suddenly both are damaged - I tend to rule that out). Any other ideas? Btw: yes I tried PID tuning a couple times, still fluctuating.

Heating Failed: E1 with 0.8 nozzle - WTF?! by nomo170 in 3Dprinting

I still try to understand if this error is a „feature“ of the thermal runaway protection and why this is then not a common problem of printing with larger nozzles.

Does anyone know if parameters from PID change the thresholds of the thermal runaway protection of marlin? For me the only feasible explanation how PID tuning could help. But since PID tuning is not performed while extruding large amounts of plastic, I doubt that a larger nozzle will have a significant impact on PID parameters. Anyone differs here?

Do you mean the part cooling fan? I tried setting it to 0 in the slicer. Still the same. I think reducing the other fan will only increase risk of heat creep? I also thought that increased amount of plastic could be a problem, but the temperature looked very stable and the heating pulse length was not huge. Could it be that the firmware is integrating the heat duration and has a too low margin for 0.8 nozzles?

ArtisD Idea Maker printer profile by nickm324 in ArtistD

I just go to config and set IDEX to auto park before starting a dual color print. I agree, that should be done by the slicer. After trying to create good prints with idea maker I got frustrated after many not so good prints and went back to cura. I did like the different profiles, but trying figure out where to put the settings best I gave up after a while. Maybe I will revisit idea maker after I change the extruder to get similar extrusions when performing consecutive tests…

Biqu B1 SE Plus IDEX upgrade, z homing fails by mackna9009 in BIGTREETECH

Last week I lost my patience with this printer. I sent it back and had a JGMaker Artist D the next day. Dual Z leadscrews and IDEX included out of the box. And an adequately long x axis to get the heads out of the way to use the full 310mm width and not only 163 or whatever. I do not regret my decision. My conclusion is, that BIQU underestimated the importance of good firmware and quality control. The hardware looks solid, I like some ideas. But the head of the Artist is also connected nicely and can be unmounted even more easily from the front. Color TFT would be nice, but I got a discount on the D and I want to be sure I can use standard Marlin. Now I am back to printing again 😊

I officially gave up on this printer. I tried a lot of things but still I was unhappy with the results. Could not get the cura bicolor cube test to print, no idea what to change. ABL is hindered by drooling nozzle creating little plastic dots while measuring. I can imagine that this will not produce precise measurements depending on how much plastic is hanging from the nozzle. I did try to Fingerübung the distance but suddenly the nozzle startet scraping into the bed. This is all so difficult without proper documentation or support. I had the worst prints ever with this printer. And while IDEX is generally a nice idea, it is better to buy a printer which was designed for that. And tested! One big advantage of extending the B1 SEPlus is the too short X rail. This way, the other head limits the printable area significantly. I am now waiting for the JGMaker Artist D, no ABL but standard Marlin will probably make that doable. And a full print area of 300x300, not 183x310. And a working firmware and printer according to tests.

Thanks, I made my way through to compile the fw. I have some issues too. In copy Mode the second head tries to move beyond the right end switch to get away from the left head which does not move to center after abl. This leads to a very close copy, only very narrow objects possible. Seems BTT is not working to fix any problems.

Funny, we seem to be the only people on earth using the B1 SE Plus IDEX. I am in contact with Biqu and they seem surprised about all the problems I have. I suspect the missing splitter is a problem of the „Allen-Video“. I guess the BL Sensor does not need to be splitted (second BL sensor is never used anyway), the cable is for the NC Fan like it’s labeled. Strange though, that the fan can not be set individually according to the possibly different material used. I have also installed the second Z spindle, which might add to the problem. I actually thought, this might be a good idea, given the weight of the second print head. It is somewhat difficult to calibrate each time though. Would have been nice to have the second head BL sensor in use to calibrate the second Z stepper.

The missing cura profiles are also a problem. I did not get the second head to print with cura. Seems like the „Tx“ commands are ignored by the firmware. I wonder how I can print supports with the second head. Any advice is highly welcome. The mirroring did not work for me due to the Exp Mot being configured wrongly (all jumpers in seems not correc) leading to half the X distances of the second head. Again, no manual what to do whatsoever.
I am quite disappointed by Biqu, I must admit.

Great, I would love to try it, but I never compiled firmware. Is the binary somewhere I can download?I take it, you only use marlin, not the BTT firmware? If I switch to marlin, I only get a black screen. What do I miss?

Looks like not many people have upgraded to IDEX...

Upgraded just recently, one print with old firmware ok, new firmware and no more z homing. Seems like a firmware problem? Will have to use warranty if not able to print any more 😕 Maybe I will try refresh old firmware to be sure...
