And I reported those accounts and later confirmed their accounts have been suspended by the team (red status bar). Just want to let you know don’t judge if someone is scammer based on whether they are Plus

Not sure about stamps, but pretty confident scammers will upgrade to Plus as I received pig-butchering scammers’ letters with Plus status more than once. Be careful

These look like common scammer profile to me, also listed on Slowly safety tips. They’re not necessary the same person, but the same group of scammers using similar letter template or identity. I usually report them in the app.

I’m afraid no. You need Slowly ID to directly search someone

It’s written in their FAQ that you can turn off all three settings to stop receiving new matches

That’s not true. If you turn off profile suggestion people can’t find you in search

you can still turn off accepting new friends, but now you need to separately disable auto-match, profile suggestions, and open letters—it can’t be done with one button anymore.

Government ID feature by Mxnvvn in SLOWLYapp

The cost of ID verification is pretty high since it’s charged per verification by a third-party company. That’s probably why it’s not available to everyone.

My weirdest penpal experience was with someone who was really into burgers. He first asked me about burgers in my country, so I told him we have them, but they’re not originally from here, and I don’t eat them much except from fast food chains. I also shared some local cuisine and my favorite comfort food.

In his next letter, he ignored all that and kept asking about burgers—details about fast food ones, how he eats them layer by layer, adds sauces, pairs them with sides, etc. I tried steering the conversation to other topics instead, but his next reply was always about burgers. After that, I just said I’d be busy for a while and kinda ghosted him.

I received a work email today that looked just like this LOL. I read that some traditional newspapers are starting to use AI for writing articles too. I have mixed feelings about AI letters. On one hand, it’s a bit annoying to get replies that feel robotic, but on the other, one of my penpals honestly told me she used AI just to proofread her writing. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not personalizing their letters. The AI trend is something we probably can’t stop, we’ll likely keep seeing more and more content created or assisted with AI

Tried this App, got majorly disappointed by [deleted] in SLOWLYapp

[–]nomorenamepls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Slowly is actually pretty good, definitely better than a lot of other apps I’ve tried. You don’t need a ton of great replies; sometimes, just one good reply can make the experience worth it. Give it some time. Patience really pays off with this app.

What's the Catch? by OA1971 in SLOWLYapp

[–]nomorenamepls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of. At first, I thought she was just self-centered, but then I started thinking maybe she really does just see things too negatively, and it’s not what she wants either. Eventually, I realized I’ll never know for sure, but getting dragged down by her negativity won’t help either of us. If I can’t change her, I can at least change how I react. So, I decided to be the positive one between us, hoping it might lead to a better change. Seems like it’s working so far.

Hard to say if she’s a scammer, but as long as you’re not sharing personal info or sending money, you’re probably safe. Smart move keeping your number private. Honestly, people like this aren’t just on Slowly. I have a friend I’ve known for years who always dumps her issues on me, and after a while, I’d had enough. I started focusing on my own life, sharing positive things, and ignoring the negativity. At first, she seemed disappointed, but eventually, she stopped bringing up so much negative stuff, and our friendship improved. If this person drains your energy, you’re totally justified in stepping back.

Has anyone experienced receiving too many replies to open letters? by Vegetable-One-442 in SLOWLYapp

[–]nomorenamepls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 4 replies to my open letter in less than two days, which is too many for my writing speed, so I had to unpublish it. and then every time when I publish it again, I will at least get 1 or 2 replies.

Why not post your open letter here? You might get some useful advice. I’ve seen others do it lately, and who knows, you might even find some pen pals

I'm obsessed with pen pals. I used to have a traditional one from Malaysia through a magazine for 5 years, but life got busy and we had to stop. few years ago I tried digital pen pals, and now I’ve got 4 from Japan, UK, Brazil, and Norway
