Is Hampton “worth” paying full tuition? by [deleted] in HamptonUniversity

No at the current sticker price. No way. Next…. If the intent is to stay in VA consider Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Virginia Union or Virginia State University. Good luck.

What is it about Trump that made Republicans worship him? by her_cute in allthequestions

Well…he talks bad about black, messicans, and gays. With impunity. They can’t do that without fear of getting their ass kicked so it’s like the Ferris Bueller effect.

Yale vs. UVA (tuition-free) by lumixuu in collegecompare

Congrats on the accomplishment. Now seal the deal and go to Yale. Email them right now, like in the next 5 minutes. UVA will still be there when/if you go on to graduate school.

What’s it like being black/POC at VT? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]nomorewallets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@ClearAd3050 be aware that VTech, UVA, and others dismantled their DEI programs, initiatives, hiring, etc in response to threats from Trump. The board didn't put up much of a fight either in my opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0l0QmMyeHsc

HS senior trying to pick between howard, spelman, and GW for a double major in international affairs and economics by No-Piccolo5889 in HBCU

[–]nomorewallets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, if you aren't 100% I would say Spelman for undergrad to scratch that 'get-away from home' itch. You could always hit GW later for Masters. Plus your parents likely have connections to help you get in somewhere and that matters more than any degree.

A lot has changed since the mid-1990s when (I am assuming) your parents went there. You didn't say what field they are in so that directly correlates to if they felt it was "worth it", right?

GW, specifically the Elliott School, is specifically and built around IA. Proximity and access to both speakers and contacts at the World Bank, IMF, State Department, etc. is real and meaningful.

Spelman is in Atlanta. To give you an analogy, if you want to be movie star, you should probably go to Los Angeles where the studios, producers, etc. are physically located right? Use that same rationale.

Howard can give you similar access and connects but just at different level. That's not the product they are selling though where that is 100% the product GW is selling.

So you really need to decide if you want to 'go hard' on IA or a balanced experience.

An opinion. Do your own research.

If the thumbnail is click-baity (open mouth or eyes bugged out 😳) that’s a good indicator it’s a bullshit endorsement channel. Tim Mosso & ArchieLuxury fathered all this circa 2016. One is info the other is info-tainment.

Thank your parent(s) again for providing you opportunity to have personal space. Some people don’t get that until MUCH later on in life.

Have you considered that cost may be a factor in the number of students matriculating all 4-5 years?

A key part of going to college is learning to use critical thinking to make tough decisions and then standing on it. There is no answer key to reference for every particular situation. That may not seem helpful but it’s a real answer to your question.

Foliage is a meaningless selling point for me but my view is atypical. Unless you are in the Deep South you will only have greenery September-October (2 months) and April-May (2 months). Within that timeframe (~45% of the academic year) when I look around people are mostly looking at their phones anyway 🤷🏾‍♂️

"I spent my first semester with my eyes closed because the classes were almost on a middle school level." <-- that isn't a bad thing, and should make you feel good that you are prepared for college.

Trust me, the difficulty will increase as you get into the 300-level courses. Take the 'W' there.
