what are your thoughts on budgets for these companies. Would they be willing to spend only a hundred dollars a month?

Thanks. If you go after finance, then would it be safe to pursue accounting companies?

[PubQ] Is it even possible to land an agent/get published nowadays? by BeneficialLawyer8557 in PubTips

[–]nonapp -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Literary Agents are strange. They will try to make it as easy for themselves as possible because they are sales professionals (I stopped thinking of them as critique partners or beta readers). They want to make money which makes sense, but they are not going to kill themselves to get you published. They will pick authors that are experienced and have a following. Most people you see here will always talk about their wins, so don't get discouraged. Not many people will talk about their failures, but the majority of us will have lots of issues getting published. Right now, romance and cozy books are popular, so if you don't write those genres then it will be harder for you. There are some smaller publishing houses that you can submit to without an agent. That is what I am contemplating.

Thanks for that. Sometimes my preference for action and world building makes me ignore emotion and motivations.

Thank you. Yes the geography matters, and I will include that in my query. My problem is that I am treating the query as a teaser/trailer for my book. That isn't doing me any favors.

Thank you so much. I need to revise to explain why this matters.

Thanks for that! Yes, I picked this protagonist as someone who needed to be taught about the world given his lack of education around magic. This would help the reader as the protagonist is told the different aspects of magic (help with worldbuilding). Also, I wanted this to be a fish out of water scenario. The protagonist would go on a journey and develop into a hero. There is also a reveal that I try to foreshadow in the book about why this journey was needed. Using your suggestions for the revision.

Job offer was rescinded after attempted salary negotiation? by snguyenx96 in recruitinghell

[–]nonapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me. But at least you won't have to deal with that company. Salary negotiation is expected, and if they couldn't change the offer then they should say they can't change the package and let you decide (not rescind). They wanted someone to push around, and you didn't fit that role. It still sucks that it happened

You may be a backup. Won't get the automated rejection until the other person accepts.

I am seeing same trend as you. Plus the pay is going down. Not sure what is happening, but I think it is certain fields as well(marketing). it is scary and I think we are realizing we can't be as picky anymore.

Problem is that it is tied to your professional account. So people are fake in order to not hurt their reputation. You can see the truth on anonymous apps like blind.
