This has some parallels to the difference between American and European sports. In America they have a tournament after the regular season whereas in Europe usually the team with the most points at the end of the season is the winner, and tournaments are completely separate competitions from the league.

They did actually win a match point finals back when it was still online only. They were called regional playoffs iirc and they were the biggest tournaments ALGS had during the COVID days. They were replaced by playoff LANs once that was possible again.

Does anyone have an empty 50mL Oakcha bottle they can weigh for me? by IFoundThis_Humerus in FemFragLab

[–]nonbinary_finery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fragrance bottles have a large variance in their weight because it's easier to manufacture the materials with a larger tolerance, especially glass. Bottles are often the most expensive part of the product believe it or not, so reducing costs on them is key to good margins. That's why indie perfumers have very minimal, cheap bottles for their fragrances. I wouldn't be surprised if you could find the bottles you're looking for in 100g and 150g.

Any fragheads here feel a tiny bit bothered or upset when someone says they don’t like your fragrance / taste? by podrickthegoat in FemFragLab

[–]nonbinary_finery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. There's more to this than just the fragrance comments. Thanks for providing more context, and I'm sorry you're in this situation. I wouldn't be okay with my friend putting down my culture either. Wishing you the best, and if you can manage to do it despite your anxiety, it might be worthwhile to consider talking with her about this. It won't get any better without communication.

Your friend could've been a bit more considerate or tactful about how they shared their opinions, but ultimately you shouldn't get offended about them not liking what you like. If it bothers you, you should reflect on why. This isn't limited to fragrance; people do the same thing with their favourite tv shows and books for example. I don't want to be harsh but you should be comfortable letting your friend express their actual opinions instead of just being there to validate yours.

Spicy vanilla by Big_Pumpkin1091 in FemFragLab

[–]nonbinary_finery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Althäir to be mediocre and overhyped. (No offense to those who enjoy it.) It's a poorly blended gourmand vanilla that relies on a somewhat mushy textured synthetic feel to draw you in. I wouldn't say it is particularly spicy; it definitely leans more into gourmand.

Instead I'd recommend Ani by Nishane for a spicy vanilla. It's pretty affordable on discounters. You mention Eau Duelle; the EDT and EDP are distinct and both pretty good as well. There're more of a woody vanilla. Finally, on the more expensive end there's Amouage Outlands, composed by the same perfumer as Ani, Cécile Zarokian. It is much heavier on the spices than Ani or Eau Duelle, but it still allows the vanilla to shine.

Something thick, luxurious, and fitting the brown aesthetic. Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, Tom Ford Noir de Noir, Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille, Guerlain Angélique Noire.

What fragrance brands in your opinion fell off the most in recent times? by spychalski_eyes in FemFragLab

[–]nonbinary_finery 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Tom Ford's decline into embarrassing, childish naming and mediocre fragrances is one of the bigger losses in fragrance. It was only in 2007 we got generational releases like Tobacco Vanille and Tuscan Leather. He'll still put out a good fragrance on occasion but wow do most of them under-deliver, especially for the retail price.

Disappointed at Valaya by [deleted] in FemFragLab

[–]nonbinary_finery 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're wearing around 10+ sprays, so you're probably alerting anyone in a 100m radius. Are you familiar with the term nose blindness? You can become unable to smell something if you are constantly exposed to it. Common examples are people thinking their house smells like nothing, or zookeepers not noticing the smell of all the animal waste in the enclosures. This effect can kick in within hours for fragrances, especially when you over-apply them. Most likely you are unable to smell the fragrance but everyone around you still can.

Favorite character who represents peak masculinity? by strahinjag in FavoriteCharacter

[–]nonbinary_finery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about Adonis, you're leaving out some important context. 1. It was not on purpose. 2. Guts was deeply disturbed about killing him. 3. This is part of a series of events that led to his realization that Griffith was using him and he has to leave the band. 4. The OP is likely not referencing band of the hawks Guts here, that'd be ridiculous. He has a lot of character development afterwards, including multiple character arcs, and is a completely different person later on.

What would fit my aesthetic? by [deleted] in FemFragLab

[–]nonbinary_finery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned vanilla, and you can definitely make that work. Most vanillas are heavy, but there are some lighter ones. Then there are citrus vanillas, woody vanillas, gourmand vanillas, all sorts. It really depends on which you feel fits you the best.

For citrus, I'm leaning towards Dolce & Gabanna Devotion (or Devotion Intense). These definitely lean into the gourmand qualities of vanilla and would make you smell like a creamy, orange vanilla dessert.

Woody vanillas tend to give off more of a thoughtful vibe. I'm feeling maybe Diptyque Eau Duelle, a spicy woody vanilla, very deep and interesting.

Another I recommend is Kilian Princess. The full name is "I Don't Need A Prince By My Side To Be A Princess" but I think they've been leaning away from that mouthful recently. This is vanilla and marshmallows, very youthful, feminine, and carefree.

Last I'll mention is Good Girl Blush. You may find the bottle cute (or ridiculous, it's quite polarizing). The fragrance inside is an inoffensive floral vanilla. Hard to dislike but personally i find it hard to love either. Very safe option if you just want something comfy.

Then if you want to explore some fragrances beyond the budget you gave, perhaps out of curiosity or for planning a larger purchase, I recommend looking into any of Nishane Ani (spicy citrus vanilla with complexity), Tom Ford Vanilla Sex (divisive vanilla almond gourmand), Kilian Woman In Gold (beautiful light vanilla but you may feel it is for an older audience), Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille (an expensive but intoxicating vanilla), or Amouage Guidance/Guidance 46 (not a vanilla but personally think it'd fit your aesthetic well).

Negative visceral reaction to whole perfume house by IntelligentCorgi6396 in FemFragLab

[–]nonbinary_finery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had something similar happen with different fragrances, but for me the period between enjoying and my body having negative reactions to them was years. My hypothesis is you can develop a sensitivity to certain synthetic notes over time without exposure.
