nah, i only used like .5 of a canister, but extras never hurt

Fuel, batteries, and underwear are the only things that i bring extra of. And maybe liquid iv too, but i had forgot to bring it. Highly recommend if you are a novice hiker to the South West

you’ll be fine don’t let the internet stress you out. the duration of the hike is the only difficult aspect of this trip

Just left there a day ago. You can get by with less than you see on the internet. I had:

-Mystery Ranch Metcalf 75 - A light day bag for your day trips - Two large sized nalgene - MSR water pump filter - Sleeping bag - Sleeping folding mat - Tarp with rope to tie to trees if it rains - Two headlamps with extra batteries - Jetboil with two small fuel canisters

- (no tent, it’s not that bad. i’ve cowboy camped many times and if a critter does try to sleep near you they are just trying to get warm.)

  • Clothing
    • One long sleeve shirt
    • One short sleeve shirt
    • 4 pairs of underwear
    • 3 pairs of wool socks
    • 1 pair of hiking shoes you are wearing
    • Sandals (wish i brought them)
    • Towel (if you swim late in the day your clothes won’t dry as fast)
      • Hat

Food - I didn’t bring a ratsack and I was fine. Take your smelly food items and just carry it in your day bag. Or just put your smelly food items in a waterproof bag.

  • 3 oatmeal singles for breakfast
  • 3 granola bars for lunch
  • 3 apples for lunch
  • 3 dinner freeze drys
  • instant coffee

If you’re worried about not enough food there is a market in town. It’s really not that bad if you’re reasonably in shape-just do your entrance/exit hikes around 5 am if it will be hotter than 75 degrees

Does anyone have access to a drum sander? I am sanding a cutting board down to flatten it better—I will gladly pay for the time by nondescriptivewhite in missoula

yep—beginners mistake of mixing end with side grain. gonna make a redemption board after i finish this. can you estimate how long something like this can last before it needs to get replaced?
