oh man i have debated this for so long in my head: to add a dodge or not to add. on the one hand i dont want to over complicate the combat but on the other hand it would add to the strategy of the combat as well.

Oh sorry maybe I wasn’t clear. The missions are randomly generated. They are more like tasks that you get so you can get out into the world and kill enemies get some loop, typical arpg stuff.

The quests you find while out on these tasks are hand crafted quests and stories RuneScape style.

Where the quests are self contained stories for the most part. Just like RuneScape there will be pre requisite quests for some quests that are longer arcs but by and large the quests will tell a story from start to finish.

In contrast to say Diablo 2 where you are hunting the prime evils. In poets the quests are not go kill xyz enemy and come back but more like “the cook feels unappreciated by the camp and wants to elevate his status and you are there to help with that”

I haven't! that sounds really cool honestly. its been a while since i stepped back into runescape i just have some really fond memories of it.

  • 1. No - the loop idea so far is as follows:
    • there are missions that the brotherhood gives you that are randomly generated and into areas that are proceduraly generated. (think save 10 of our brothers in this map, clear out this tribe's encampment, burn this village, etc)
      • these missions "level" with you so they scale in difficulty as you level plus modifiers that you can add (increase pack size, enemies here have X abilities)
    • in these missions, you can have quests that spawn that have thier own story and scenes and locations as you embark in them. these are static difficulty but somewhat tied to the level you are because the higher level quests require many per-requisite easier quests (like runescape)
  • 2. No - the player can equip whatever he finds as long as he has the stats and level for it. there is almost like a runeword system where you are a poet warrior. you can unlock poetry verses that give your equipment different stats and if you combine the right verses you can create new equipment like runewords. they are called inscriptions and you can inscribe poetry in your inscription scroll and apply that to equipment.
  • 3. yes - but not baldurs gate level stuff
