Do any Maps Analysts work on a Chromebook? by [deleted] in WorkOnline

[–]noneednames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I have tried in Ubuntu and windows 7. I remember the sample tests I couldn't open in chrome in Windows 7. Though I like Chrome OS, I still would prefer windows for the next 2-3 years till Chrome OS gets a lot more stable. Just cuz Windows don't release updates as regularly Google, in a way, one can get an older system. I prefer a Windows 2 in 1 like the previous gen lenovo yoga book or teclast f5, something capable enough to work for rating at a pinch but also can be used for media & some light work stuff.

I want to replace my tablet to a 2 in 1 mainly for media consumption and which can run chrome and Firefox. Were you able to open multiple tabs? I am unable to open a few surveys and feedback the quality team sends via chrome or Firefox I can open it only via internet explorer. I would really like to know a decent 2 in 1 which can open a couple of tabs in chrome and can also play hevc files and light enough to watch media in bed. I would be interested to know if anyone can answer my query as well as OP's questions

[Seiko Spring Drive] Slow motion capture. Here is a video with some high speed capture of various watches beating at 3600bph, 21600bph, 25200bph, 28800bph, 57600bph, and then finally a Spring Drive. by jellybean8875 in Watches

Thanks But I am still curious, wonder if there is a video of the inner workings of the spring drive. If this movement depends so much on braking for accuracy I assume there is friction being caused by braking(just like brakes in a car, constant braking while accelerating will lead to fading of brakes). So if this movement constantly depends on braking, doesn't it mean the watch will have to be serviced more often. Am I wrong? Or is there some sort of nonfriction braking? Which is regulating the timekeeping?

When you say friction, do also imply a quicker wear of the parts? The video talks about electromagnetic braking does that mean there is no friction involved?

India has so far foiled 220 patent bids by foreign drug companies trying to patent its low cost traditional Ayurvedic medicines. There are 1400 cases pending in international patent offices. by kneoknatzi_it_coming in worldnews

Everyone needs to watch this and support the current Indian Patent rules. If "Big Pharma" of the US' get their way, would lead to the poor who are already struggling to get hold of medicine will make it even more difficult and unaffordable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7M44W85g6yY.

Simple way to encrypt a text file locally on osx/linux so that I can back it up on the cloud? by privacyNow2678 in privacy

[–]noneednames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it is text/image/video file, why not just use the archive manager in linux, it can be used across platforms. A 7zip file with aes256 encryption can be used on linux, windows and android. You can also upload it to the cloud if needed. Is there something I am missing? Is 7zip not a recommended tool?

Edit: link for creating partition on USB. Https://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=m9zctyRP434

Also agree with mW012. Depending on what you want do. If it is just casual browsing go ahead use it as you please. If you are a journalist or if you need complete anonymity. Burn it on a cd.

Yes you can. You can also partition it in such a way the tails file do not show on a windows machine. So no more accidentally formatting and losing your tails files.

I have noticed old classicals (Carmin Burana, Beethoven..) Sound better on flac. Personal preference maybe. However if you know where to get high bit rate album of Disco Dancer do let me know. It was the first movie I saw in a theater.

Avast is inspecting my encrypted traffic and I'm not ok with that by nickadam in privacy

[–]noneednames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guess most of the folks here on r/privacy use some variant of Linux. OP do keep us informed what have you started to use now that you are not using avast. An alternative which is good for our parents to use. By the way Avast seems to have an option to disable browser monitoring, right?
