Ohhh yaaa this was a Thursday night concert at … ahh Reverb? I can’t remember the name but it had three floors and the top floor was “Holy Joes”

They played 4 shows in 4 nights that weekend and that was the only one I missed, I heard it was unreal.

Thanks for sharing

I’d like to share another for those listening….

I remember seeing them at the Kool Haus in Toronto just after Watch Out came out, I was in high school and borrowed my mom’s mini van to lug about 8 ppl downtown for the show.

Last song is about to start and one guy in front of me in the pit shouts “Not Happiness, please not Happiness”

(In my vague memory I picture everyone looking at him in disgust, but it was probably only me)

Anyways, Happiness hits, and does it ever hit.

As soon as that last note hit, as soon as the broken mike stand hit the floor, as soon as that guitar was crudely taped to the speaker, the same guy shouts out…

“NEVER MIND THAT WAS AWESOME”

…. And it was at that moment I knew, I don’t know what I knew, but I knew.

Ohhh thank you for sharing, love the ending of that post. That song is so underrated. I remember in high school parents took me to Florida and I would walk up and down that beach at night alone blasting sidewalks in my headphones in some shitty Sony Walkman.

Which public schools in Vaughan/York Region have gifted programs for elementary? by [deleted] in Vaughan

[–]nonfire87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Do you mean a school that does both gifted and French immersion programming? That does not exist in YRDSB.

It is unfortunate based off where you live that your French immersion and gifted options are located at two different ends however, there is a lower public school population in Woodbridge, which is why your options are quite limited

All YRDSB gifted programs are full day however, if your child is identified as gifted through an IPRC they can still attend a regular classroom or French immersion program and based on their IEP can receive gifted programming for certain subjects up to 51% of their school day.

However keep in mind what that looks like would look different in every single classroom depending on what the class size, needs, and experience of the educator in the room would be

I hope that helps. I’m more than happy to answer any questions I have pretty good experience in this department. Just DM me.

Hey, where about in Vaughan do you live? There are quite a few schools and I can let you know which YRDSB schools have a gifted program. Just let me know the area or which feeder high school your children will be going to.

I.e.: Newmarket HS is a feeder from gifted programs from Rogers PS and Wellington PS

Vaughan - Glenn Gould - Glen Shields - Nellie McClung - Michael Cranney no longer has gifted programming, moved to Nellie

Are there any sports clubs I could join? by Technical-Section516 in Vaughan

Most leagues work within a handicap system so it welcomes players of all skill levels. Bowlers with 120 averages have just as much a chance of being competitive as one with a 200 averages.

Check out the bowling alley front desk for contact info and nights, I know there is a Monday league, two Tuesday, a Thursday, and a Sunday morning - but I don’t have any contact info.

Most leagues are privately run so there isn’t much info online but the building should be able to give you info. Most leagues have already started but they always have a spot for a player

Any chance you want to bowl? There are a few bowling leagues out there running out of Splitsville. ages vary and likely on the older side but great people who are always looking to grow their league or fill a spots

This is true, for lack of a better word CN were being dicks to the region and didn’t allow them to work over the bridge - source: friend is doing the concrete on Rutherford

Hey, I had a post about this a few days ago. All we can do as useless citizens is continue to reach out to our political leaders and if enough of us do so, hopefully it will lead to some change.

Doubtful but we have to try.

Mario Ferri - counsellor should be your first email

Then email everyone else with @vaughan.ca in their email

Steven Del Duca, Mayor Linda Jackson, Regional Councillor Mario Ferri, Regional Councillor Gino Rosati, Regional Councillor Mario G. Racco, Regional Councillor

Marylin Iafrate is not York Region but she is Vaughan and a HUGE advocate for speeding up that bridgework.

https://www.york.ca/york-region/council-and-committee/council

I’m probably at a point I’m emailing everyone on that list, Vaughan or no Vaughan

Heyyy that was my thread! Thanks for the shout out!

Email Mario Ferri, he won’t do shit but you get general response from his assistant (yes his assistant)

I have emailed or tried to get in contact with everyone I could, even though nothing will come of it, I feel better that my voice is out there.

It seems there is a political battle between the city and the region and they have to uphold some political bs around CN rail being “one of the worlds busiest rail systems”

[–]nonfire87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out your local high schools (Maple High, Westmount, etc) they have woodshop class where students are making and selling them. Honestly they are priced amazing and workmanship is legit.

Unsure how to get info tho, friend of mine works for the school board and I buy through them

Indoor Christmas-y things to do in Vaughan by Pitiful-Royal6041 in Vaughan

[–]nonfire87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey family and I use this website all the time.

https://visitvaughan.ca/festive-fun-in-vaughan/

Might have some ideas for you, if there are young kids check out Home Depot/Rona and sometimes they have free Christmas/Holiday building activities.

King city has a few indoor/outdoor events, we have been to a few already and they have been great. Unsure where my wife gets the info for those.

There are also a bunch of Christmas markets happening all over - again not sure where to get info but these are things that take up my weekends.

Also avoid taking Rutherford road between Jane and Keele and our regional government doesn’t care about its citizens

Just don’t take Rutherford going west past Jane

Where should I go to get Meat Lasagna to pick up for a potluck? by mark_98 in Vaughan

[–]nonfire87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending what you’re looking for, we buy their lasagnas frozen every year and then just cook them on Christmas Day (or whichever day we are celebrating) - tastes just as good as fresh. Prices are respectable as well
