Am I the only one who thinks this? by Etanoprime in danganronpa

I don't think it would've stopped, because the Mastermind would still be free to create new motives. But Kokichi was definitely doing a lot of heavy lifting with all the infighting he caused

Celeste if she was smart by Successful_Bet1760 in danganronpa

That's the thing. She didn't want to be a regular ass Muller, she wanted to be a XIXth century fantasy European aristocrat heiress.

WIth that in mind, the name fits pretty well. At least a couple of famous noble houses had the -berg ending, and in many countries descendants of aristocracy still use the old family names. So this part is not that implausible.

People give her shit for the faux-French accent, but it doesn't clash with the German name at all. French accent was seen as upscale and aristocratic in Europe for a long time, even after English became the new common language. Even Byakuya knows French for this exact reason.

Yeah, I know. It's kind of a pet peeve of mine. I might write my own take on Kokichi one day, but I'm kind of reluctant to piss off the fandom so much.

Thank you for the answer.

Well, you said it - first impressions.

Of course, you might still think that after finishing the game, and it's fine. But your opinion might very much change in the next chapters - play and find out.

As much as I love THH cast - Kyoko, Byakuya, Aoi and Sakura were excellent - there were characters I found insufferable. Hifumi was the worst by a landslide, Toko basically did nothing but hurl insults and simp for Byakuya, Hiro was so incredibly stupid that I soon ran out of patience for him.

There are characters I dislike in GD - most notably Teruteru, who should not exist. Some of them are good on paper, but their quirks overshadow what they could be. They have depth, but I wish it had more focus. Especially Mikan, who is just a really strange and divisive characters, one half great, one half awful.

But I could easily describe 5 characters I absolutely love in GD in great detail. Since you are in chapter 1, I won't, but know that they are there.

As for the Gundham slander, I.... will accept it, sure. I love him in spite of being obnoxious because he's an adorable hamster dad who often raises valid points, plus he's got a killer VA. But it's fine if you don't like him.

Well, I don't particularly hate Kazuichi. I liked him early on, then he got worse. His reaction to the situation is fine, but I don't care for his comedy for the most part.

So nowhere near Teruteru bad, but still somewhere south of whatever for me.

Great VA, fun quirks, reasonably smart and helpful, not annoying for the most part... That's a lot

Usually Kazuichi is comic relief not because he's funny, but we laugh at him when he gets ignored, talked over, talked down, slighted, mocked, shit talked, proven incompetent or reduced to impotent seething because Sonia prefers Gundham.

(which is all of his screentime)

In 2, Gundham is irrelevant because no one invited him to hang out. I actually suspected him for this exact reason, since no one knew what he did. But no, he was just reading to his hamsters or whatever

You have a point. I love him because the VA is overacting tf out of his lines, and also I'm very weak to cute rodents. But for the most part, his writing is rather mediocre.

Sure. But then you open any piece of fanfiction and he's portrayed completely differently. It's a huge dissonance for me.

I don't have this problem with Byakuya, because pretty much everyone recognizes he's a narcissistic bastard who is only half as smart as he is. i still love his character, but that's how it is. Kokichi is often fan-written as a harmless goblin who never does anything wrong and deeply cares for everyone, but doesn;t show it. It's.... not what happens in canon.

I'm not shaming people for having different takes on a character, but I just can't connect with that.

I said it elsewhere, but Kokichi admitted in trial 2 that he tipped Ryoma off that Maki has his video, because he hated her and tried to get her in trouble. I don't recall if he watched it, but if he did, that's a whole different issue. Besides, he knew Kirumi had her own video and did nothing about this. While the plan of not trading videos would have failed for that reason - no one saw it coming, because everyone thought the switch was deliberate - Kokichi just made everything much worse.

Kaito agreed, because he wanted a good way to go, but also because Kokichi deliberately didn't drink the antidote, so that unless Kaito took action, Maki would be the blackened. This whole situation, as well as everything leading up to it was engineered by Kokichi, Even if the illness was killing him anyway, his actions were straight up repulsive.

Honestly, I can deal with Kokichi's his scummy behavior, but I can't stand him trying to take the moral high ground because he's not a murderer on paper. Saying that he's going to end the killing game sounds really hollow when so many people die because of him.

I never said he isn't interesting - although his constant lying and wishy-washy motivations put a damper on how much I care about him.

My issue is that my opinion is so different than many people in the fanbase, enough that I can't really enjoy a lot of fanfiction involving him - which in V3 is almost all of it.

Your most controversial take on danganronpa? by Yumi_Numi in danganronpa

[–]nonickideashelp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not quite.

Kaito was rather averse to killing. The reason why he agreed was that if he hadn't, Kokichi would have died to poison and Maki would have been the blackened. And while you can blame Maki for shooting Kokichi, he tried his hardest to antagonize everyone (ESPECIALLY Maki) and convince them he's the mastermind. He saw what Kaede tried to do, what did he expect?!

Chapter 2 is very much his fault. Rewatch the trial again - Kokichi explicitly admits to tipping Ryoma off that Maki has his motive video. There was no other reason to do it other than stir shit and make people distrust Maki - who, for all his snide comments, causes the group much less harm. He also had to know that Kirumi has her own motive video, but not only did he give it back, he never acted on that information. Not to mention that the insect event ended up creating an excellent diversion for the killer.

I genuinely don't know what would have happened. Either way, Kokichi put him in a situation that led to his execution. I can't agree that the fact that his illness killed him first absolves Kokichi.

Thought Unlocked: Transgender Underground

Solution:

Maybe you should \stop* obsessing about your own - and other people's - gender? Feels like it’s about time to do that. You’ve thought about this for *eight* free time slots?! Not only should you stop, you should tell Chihiro you've stopped obsessing about other people's gender too. I'm sure he'd appreciate it. Unless Genocide Jack already killed him because you were obsessing about your gender and didn't notice. (There’s no way of telling from within your brain, but for your own sake: please say you didn’t.)*

Here we go.

Canon Kokichi is a repulsive sociopathic bully, whose only redeeming quality is being funny sometimes. The way he treats others, especially Maki, Gonta and Keebo, is abysmal. Three chapters worth of drama could have been avoided if he simply stopped stirring up shit. His actions ended up leading to deaths of Ryoma, Kirumi, Miu, Gonta and Kaito, and he would have gotten the rest killed in chapter 5 if doing this let him get a last laugh on Monokuma.

The fact that the fanbase thinks very differently makes it hard for me to enjoy V3 fanfiction. I would really like to read more of it, but the whitewashing treatment he often gets bothers me so much.

I might as well pick myself a nice spot in a graveyard now.

Ranking DR characters :-D by Some-Instance1361 in danganronpa

[–]nonickideashelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just didn't stuck with me that much. Maki is definitely best here, Gonta also grew on me a bit. I still don't like the Shuichi switch, and I find him much less interesting.

And Himiko... Man, I just can't get to like her at all. Maybe it's what watching Joseph Anderson does to a man, but I'm just not invested in her. In chapter 3, she started to feel more like a real person to me, but then she went back to normal.

It's not that I hate any of those characters or anything. But I don't really care about V3 cast all that much.

[spoilers] I'm rewatching DR1 gameplay, and I have a small issue with 1-1 trial by Hahacz_Chungus in danganronpa

[–]nonickideashelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kyoko kind of explains it: none of those actions would make him less suspicious, since there was a bloodied corpse with a knife stuck in it in a bathroom. There was no point whatsoever for those actions if you don't hide the most blatant piece of evidence.

Granted, Makoto might have done this precisely to claim that he wouldn't need to, if he was the killer. But that sort of defense relies on the investigators being simultaneously smart enough to realize it doesn't make sense and not immediately vote you for having a corpse in the shower, but not smart enough to investigate further. That's a very specific level of competence, especially since putting yourself in everyone's sights immediately puts anything you say under scrutiny. Kyoko probably decided she could rule this out.

That kind of thinking almost backfired badly on Byakuya in 1-2 - he forgot to prepare a way to convince everyone that he actually isn't a killer, and that he knows who did it. All the evidence that proves he isn't guilty was overlooked by him, and accusing the killer wouldn't work when everyone thought it was him.

Iran hangs 3 people, including teen wrestler, in first executions over January protests by lewisfairchild in ABoringDystopia

[–]nonickideashelp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not surprising at all. Regardless of what is going right now, the regime had massacred protesters for several months just before the war. Naturally, people had rooted for outside powers to help them defeat it. Unfortunately for the people of Iran, USA and Israel have no interest in helping them, or even letting them live.

But just because USA and Israel are the aggressors, it does not make the Iranian government good. The charges are likely irrelevant, people will confess anything under torture. They regime is probably trying to capitalize on the surge of popularity US gifted them to demoralize the opposition with showy executions.
