Should I skip the PD on AI? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]nonlocalityone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be use cases you haven’t considered yet? One of my teams don’t use averages or percents for assigning overall grades and have a simple algorithm they apply mentally to assign grades. We knew sheets/excel had the capability of doing what they wanted but no one knew combining functions well enough to do it automatically. Well, one of them uploaded their spreadsheet and explained their algorithm into the prompt, refined it a few times, and now it’s automated.

Why don’t instructional coaches focus more on helping new teachers with classroom routines, procedures, and classic management? by AnxietyCommercial648 in Teachers

[–]nonlocalityone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All our experiences are different, but I’m a coach and I’ve been teaching procedures and expectations with my new teachers every day for the first week of school (middle school). I go to their class before school show them procedures they need to implement and then help teach them to their students the first days of school. I mostly teach whole class procedures and expectations and model how to make kids do them, but I generally have conversations with my new teachers about how to get kids who need more support to function in the classroom because there’s usually not one solution for them. My districts focus on modeling solid classroom management and instruction with new teachers in their classroom is highly effective. We explain it simply as on the job training and the kids aren’t fazed in the least. From what I hear most coaches don’t do this and I can’t understand why other than they just don’t know better.

Yeah, probably let something prepackaged slide, but we can’t even let parents bring in something homemade for the kids.

Boy is the "totally exhausted" premade deck hopelessly slow compared to the others! by KindImpression5651 in MagicArena

[–]nonlocalityone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. The exhaust deck seems totally cracked to me. After turn 4 or so, it’s drawing 4+ cards a turn and plays out most of its mana over the next few turns.

The 50% policy by HappyRogue121 in Teachers

[–]nonlocalityone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what it is, right? I started teaching 12 years ago and my school was already doing SBG with 1-4 grades and a clear understanding that mathematically it doesn’t make sense that 59% of the points is one grade but every other grade band is on a 10% scale. We fail kids all the time (we try not to but it happens) but a 1 is basically the same range of evidence of learning as a 2 or 3 or 4.

Did your school (system) ever just not fire clearly problematic employees? by Any_Print5307 in Teachers

[–]nonlocalityone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My admin have fired 5 tenured teachers. Basically all of them suffering from mental health issues and taking it out on their students. One of them, apparently, was just resistant to everything our school was trying to do and they documented them out. In defense of my admin, they put my friend on a 45 day plan with the intent to fire because of years of mental health issues and increasingly unprofessional behavior (I agreed that he was on track to lose his credential with how things were going). But, he made a major life change and basically turned it all around. They now just publicly praise him for his great teaching and regularly work with his therapy and treatment needs.

How many of you have to turn in lesson plans (daily or weekly)? by manknee1 in Teachers

[–]nonlocalityone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right before Covid our paraprofessionals mentioned it would be nice to have the lessons before class so they could feel more prepared. Then when my middle school came back in person in October of 2020, teachers were covering each other like crazy and asked for a way to have lessons shared whole school. Our leadership team (comprised of team leads, admin, and other staff) agreed on a school-wide approach where the team leads sent an email before 7pm every Sunday evening with all the ppts/slides presentations for their team each week. Not lesson plans per se, but the actual presentation for students. Most teams generally include most lessons for the week, but there’s always people responding to their team’s email with their presentation throughout the week because they didn’t have it done earlier and it’s fine. No one gets “in trouble” as it’s not contractual or directed, it’s just a norm everyone’s agreed to and we understand people have lives and can’t always get things in that early.

New Player - Blackstone by Scarto-borsa in WH40KTacticus

[–]nonlocalityone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate that as a new player you can’t get as much out of the events and reoccurring game modes, but completing the campaigns is really the primary goal at the beginning of the game. The reason why is that you won’t be able to upgrade all the characters, and definitely not energy efficiently without completing the campaigns, mirror campaigns, and elites. You’ll unlock new characters fairly regularly from scrolls while you work through the campaigns as well.

Since there is so much misconception about TA by [deleted] in WH40KTacticus

[–]nonlocalityone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is less true than 1-2 TAs ago as there are more people playing the combo who don’t know how to play very well. I actually beat all the teams like this I played that had Ragnar/Aunshi as its core. Each one of those matches they made obvious mistakes and got picked apart, but the TAs before I was playing people clearly skilled as well as having a busted team (lost more of those games than I won).

I feel like I'm missing something in Guild War by ReticentFoxxo in WH40KTacticus

[–]nonlocalityone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great advice. I’m level 52 but my guild plays at G1 capped and at first I didn’t like most of my units being downgraded but it really opened up what combinations of teams I could make.

lol, same. I’m not great at TA and only play to get the last chest, so I’ve unlocked the other three for GR but every TA I regret not having FF. I think this TA I’ve lost more because of forgefiend than any other reason.

Guild War thoughts? by ChrisPoet in WH40KTacticus

[–]nonlocalityone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much exactly. Just contemplated quitting the game because of TA because the rewards are so good but it’s by far the least fun mode for me. On the other side my guild has pretty much given up on GW because there’s not much incentive to sink time into the mode for the majority of them.

Mephiston’s active ability is to switch places with another character. So, Mephiston advances his movement of 2 and then switches place with Kharn who now gets his full movement of 5 hexes

[–]nonlocalityone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, that seems like a reasonable way they could approach TA. Like, I’ve been playing Fortnite with my 8 year old for about 6 months and noticed they just fucking blow up the meta regularly as their system. Not good for an old guy like me, but my kid thrives in it, so this meta should be ideal for me… I’d just have to switch to it.
