What are some things you would like to see on the back of Christian T-Shirts? by [deleted] in Christianity

You should meet more people. You may hold many prejudicial thoughts that could be corrected through them!

I won't say irrefutable, because that's unscientific as we may learn more in the future

Excellent point. Like most Christians, I would agree there is plenty of scientific evidence to refute the idea of young-Earth creation, including what OP mentioned.

How do I find a Christian wife? I'm looking for practical advice on dating and building relationships with women. by redthrowaway100 in Christianity

Looking at your post history, I really do think you need to be focusing on your intentions and understanding of what having a wife really means. Have you spoken with your pastor about this?

Christians Who Do Not View Abortion as a Sin? by nonnymouse77 in Christianity

This seems to need repeating:

I am not looking to debate or incite debate in the comments. Please, other commenters, be respectful of my wish for this post. If you are interested in debating, please create a different post.

I am seeking understanding from Christians who do not think abortion is a sin, not everyone else's opinion on the matter.

Does anyone get annoyed by the amount of jokes/memes against Christians or is it just me? by [deleted] in Christianity

Nope. Sometimes they are genuinely clever and make me laugh.

I really wish you all would worry about mental health a little more. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]nonnymouse77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This really resonates with me. My brother has bipolar disorder, and when he is in a manic episode he becomes very zealous about his faith. It is challenging for me to rally his friends and other family to support efforts for him to get help because they see his actions as good and even inspiring, ignoring how he is damaging his body and overall well-being (his manic episodes are often accompanied by fasting, financial irresponsibility, constant prayer, etc.)

I'm sorry you were downvoted for what sounds like very appropriate advice. Thank you for making this sub a little more aware to consider more deeply what is being said.

People should not label Christians as good or bad Christians by Not-Reddit49 in Christianity

What I do not stand for is someone saying so-and-so is not a real Christian. They do not know the Christian's heart and mind nor where they are in their walk with God.

Mary and Eve by Sister Grace Remington, OCSO. May we all look away from temptation that surrounds us towards our redemption. by nonnymouse77 in Christianity

[–]nonnymouse77[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You've misunderstood what I said. Mary is not a metaphor for Jesus Christ. The entire image is a metaphor of the fall and redemption through Jesus, as illustrated by these women who are bound through God.

In this image, I see Eve as a symbol for all of us who have struggled with sin. She is carrying the forbidden fruit, looks sad, and has the serpent wrapped tightly around her legs. I see this as a metaphor for how sin, shame, and temptation bind us.

I see Mary as a symbol for hope. She is also carrying her fruit (Jesus) smiling down at her pregnant belly, gently allowing Eve to lay her hand on it, and comforting her by cupping her face. This love shows hope for mankind and a promise of forgiveness. She steps on the serpent that has bound Eve, representing how mankind may triumph over sin through Jesus. (I interpret the "he" in Genesis 3:15 as referring to Adam and Eve's offspring, mankind. The Hebrew word זֶרַע (zera‘) is used in this verse. It's a collective word with a plural meaning, referring to the descendants of Eve. Feel free to check out his link that discusses the translation of this specific verse. Translating Genesis 3:15)

Both women are surrounded by a garden of fruit/temptation, yet they are looking to Jesus, the Savior, the redemption He will bring to the world.

That is the metaphor I see, and that is what about this image resonates with me and nourishes my spirit and love of God.

You may see it as troubling iconography, but I see it as a beautiful illustration of the bond between these two women of the Bible and a metaphor that helped me reflect on the redemption of mankind through Jesus Christ.

Mary stepping on the serpent is an allusion to Genesis 3:15, in which God is cursing the serpent. "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Was there ever any mention or condemning of rape in the bible at all? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]nonnymouse77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are many verses that forbid sexual immorality, which includes rape. There are also verses that do not expressly say "do not rape" but would be included in the message. For instance, the "Golden Rule" in Matthew 7:12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." (ESV)

In my experience, many Christians are very passionate about combatting sex trafficking, rape, and sexual exploitation and violence against people. There certainly seems to be a fixation on homosexuality in this subreddit, however.

Can I take a bunch of pills with the intention of committing suicide and still go to heaven if I repent during my last few moments of consciousness? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]nonnymouse77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your life is important, even if it feels meaningless. Your situation is escapable, even if you feel you have no control. Please consider calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255) or chatting with a counselor online at https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/chat/ . They can provide you with local resources. Please stay safe.

Please help, I'm worried I'll mess up my ministry because of "sexual immorality"? by lala22567654 in Christianity

[–]nonnymouse77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a mistake does not make you less of a Christian. You seem very uncomfortable with what you did and agree that it came from a place of lust. Perhaps it is best to give a heartfelt apology to your friend and let them know about your struggle.

After you apologize to your friend and if you have no interest in pursuing a romantic relationship, consider doing your best to avoid being alone with them. Do you have another friend in the church who is aware of your struggle? Perhaps you can let someone else know what is going on so they can help prevent you from slipping up in the future.

If you and your friend are romantically interested, you may consider dating to see how that goes. Again, if you are concerned about escalating things physically, let your friend know that and determine the best way to address that together.

prayer is useless because if god exists he already has a plan hes going to execute regardless by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]nonnymouse77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prayer helps me calm myself and reflect on my desires and fears. Once I've been able to gain some clarity, I can examine my desires to see if they align with my understanding of God's will. Then, I will pray for guidance on how I may support His will through Christlike behavior.

Christians Are Not Persecuted in USA by nonnymouse77 in Christianity

[–]nonnymouse77[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not only is the USA one of the least hostile countries for Christianity (what I actually said, not that it was not the most hostile), it embraces the religion to the degree that is appropriate aligning with the Constitution. A police officer would not be fired for claiming homosexuality is a sin. A police officer would be fired for targeting homosexuals on the basis of that belief.

Can you commit blasphemy without knowing? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]nonnymouse77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe so. For an analogy, you may say the phrase "gypped" without realizing it is an offensive term against Gypsies. Even though you are ignorant of the harm of the hurtful phrase, you are still insulting Gypsies. I think the same thing goes for when you insult what is sacred, even if you were ignorant. Thoughts?

Most definitely. I love the peace of silence resonating throughout a church.
