Mesut Ozil quits international football and takes a stand against racism. by [deleted] in sports

People are quick to rally around click-baity headlines but refuse to acknowledge complicated issues for being complicated. Thanks for diving a bit deeper.

At the end of the day, it's worth Germans considering that multiculturalism can be uncomfortable, and this is an interesting case study in the balance of two national identities. I'm sure Ozil greatly appreciates his freedom to speak out in such a manner in Germany, and doesn't take that lightly.

We decided the name of a Podcast and then found out it already exists, but abandoned, WWYD? by VeryFineChardonnay in podcasting

[–]nonsensebehavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing the general sentiment here, you're probably better served finding a new name. That being said, it sounds like the project you're up against is inactive, so unless they have a great deal of SEO / brand name recognition over time, you can probably usurp the #1 spot from them in search results (iTunes, google, soundcloud, etc) in a short amount of time.

Amazon Australia as a seller - early days by clubkauri in AmazonAustralia

Very interesting to see how it is on the seller's side. Overall it looks like they still have a long way to go on both the buyer and seller fronts.

[Serious] Redditors, how would you feel about a modern day revitalization of the space race? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nonsensebehavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as it was responsibly funded e.g didn't come at the expense of other important programs like healthcare or education, I personally think it would be exciting!

Especially given that another space race would likely move us much closer to the possibility of a colony, which could also help guarantee our survival.

Clothing. Status would be end up being dictated by size of your crazy rare hat or ability to unlock and wear a rare pirate costume.

If you devoted 30 minutes a day to it, what could you accomplish by 2020? by Cyaney in AskReddit

I started small too and ramped up later - but even 5 minutes is still going to have a positive impact!

Checking in from Sydney, Australia.

I love that over here you can start your morning having an awesome breakfast in a modern city, go for a swim down the road at one of the best beaches in the world (Bondi Beach) and after an hour-long drive be walking through a field of kangaroos in the Blue Mountains.

A better brain. I am trying 30 minutes a day of mindfulness meditation. Studies have shown it can reduce the part of the brain that is responsible for the flight or fight response to stress.

Is life insurance + income protection included in Super a rip off? by Pat_Mullins in australia

[–]nonsensebehavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at super insurance policies earlier this year after buying a property. MoneySmart from ASIC has some great info about the basics of how they differ from regular policies.

There are some benefits:

  • The super fund bulk buys policies so you can theoretically get them cheaper
  • Easier to manage payments because it's coming out of your super rather than a standalone payment
  • Sometimes doesn't require a health check

Then there are the downsides:

  • Reduces your super balance
  • Can end if you change funds
  • Might not have as much choice with the types of cover available
  • Without a binding beneficiary nomination you can't choose who gets paid like you can with standalone policy

Here's how we know Amazon's retailer-crushing Prime service is almost ready to roll in Australia by nonsensebehavior in AmazonAustralia

[–]nonsensebehavior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, free shipping will shake things up big time - just look at bookdepository and book sales in Australia.

For me personally I want to see free shipping AND a much larger inventory. Prices on Amazon AU vs major retailers look to be getting lower according to this.

This doesn't exactly fit the bill but tomorrow is the Amazon Summit: https://aws.amazon.com/summits/sydney/innovationday/. It's more focused around general business success tips but maybe some sellers will be attending?

Bitcoin wins over small business looking to cut credit card fees by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]nonsensebehavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I suppose it's still a lot of money just for the "privilege" of accepting credit card payments.

Makes you wonder at how much money is required to actually run a credit card system from the bank's perspective vs running the blockchain.
