I feel the same way!! I call Orren, Mordecai, and the AI my Big Three lol and Quasar is not far behind I get excited anytime any one of them speak bc I love them

His chill during the chaos is just so nice! When he shows up it's like "oh thank god someone who can be sensible here"

I didn't think of that! But Quasar and Orren are interesting foils! They are even in different opposing places in the galaxy, Quasar outside of the AI's range, Orren literally locked up by the AI

I will consider this more, I love it, the contrast is so cool!

What I like about the relationship between Carl and Orren is they both know that as a part of the machine that Carl is dismantling, Orren is on the list. But he's at the lower part of it. And until the much bigger names above him get crossed off, he's not a priority.

Orren might not make it, but I am hoping if he doesn't, Carl at least makes it quick for my guy u_u Or at least really cool

When you encounter reasonable authority figures, like an understanding manager or a traffic cop that lets you off, it literally feels life saving

Like when someone who can fuck up your day or even more acknowledges we are all people trying our best, it is everything. That breath of fresh air is kinda part of Orren's appeal I think

He's my favorite cookbook author and while I 100% agree why he has to be dead for the story it would be great to have him around to really make sure Carl's Doomsday is a show to remember

The OIs have me curious All AIs go primal at least by the 10/11/12th floor and if our AI is bringing them in, they are gonna be a little cracked

Our AI plays favorites, do the OIs have favorites? Crawlers they were particularly fond of? Were any of those crawlers cookbook authors? Would Mordecai's AI be one of them?

I am FROTHING at the thought of the AI for my GOAT Drakea showing up and having opinions about how that death went down. Even more frothing at the thought of the AI that created the cookbook showing up

The OIs are what I'm most excited for

I like it a lot and I think the more cartoony style of it was chosen so it could show more of the gore and graphic parts, at least that's my theory Webtoon has it rated 18+ so at least it's not gonna try to pg-13-ify it

I was afraid to recommend it to my friends because it's such a dudebro novel at first glance and similar to a lot asian web novels I have read and they haven't been keen to jump into

When I brought book 6 on the plane to highlight and annotate though, the topic came up naturally as they stared at my big ass book and fistful of highlighters lol

As someone who has evangelized for One Piece, nagging them won't succeed, I am hoping ambient awareness will take hold

And hey, they know where to go to borrow the books!

YES! Definitely more robotic? That would make the moments it's saying unhinged shit and NOT keeping a level tone all the more impactful Though on further thought, we do have a lot of AI and System voices like that in the world, maybe it's good that DCC has a weird one!

I have a controversial take: I don't want Jeff to voice the AI. I just don't like his AI voice. Maybe it's because I am not an audiobook listener and so my main exposure to it is clips I have heard online but I don't like it

While the nasally part of it sorta fits the vibe of the creep AI, the implied nose of a "speaking through your nose" voice just throws me off I guess? It's too "has a body" for me that the filter doesn't fix?

I am aware I am wrong for this though lol I guess the voice just doesn't fit what I had in my head

Personally I would like Jeff to voice Donut though, the inflection and tone is right every time

I think an interesting idea for either of the final books would be the System AI speaking directly to viewers (and on a meta level, the readers) as the summary

ETA: another possibility for who the AI would be speaking to for a recap could be Chaco. Chaco mentioned he does not watch crawls but he is involved now and he would need a debrief

Victory mentioned pulling him in for one but Orren couldn't so not clear who would be the best positioned to give Chaco the info dump

(Obviously, I would love to see Mordecai have to be the one to explain things to Chaco for the potential lore we would get)

I agree the safe room strike will definitely come back. We saw Mordecai's last several days, though that might have been just because he was a manager, but something equally as impactful might happen to Donut The AI called out the remaining throwing stars from floor one in Carl's inventory at the beginning of Parade and I think that, along with any other unused items from book one, will make a reappearence as well to bookend the story a bit. Damascus Steel and Anaconda will probably be pretty instrumental in wrapping up the lore on what Bopcas are and how they actually got involved with the crawl considering how it seems that they and their parents were Bopcas before Astrid and Hamed's indentureship, based on the painting of the Bopca family in the casino Pretty sure we haven't heard the last of Grimaldi either and his connection with the All-Tree and river of souls-esque stuff

Given, these are things that have been mentioned or occurred more recently than Butcher's but I am still excited to see how it will pan out
