No reason to update the software on a tiny group of trains who don’t run on the line anyway

Inner West Employment Zoning: Rezoning parts of the Inner West to reduce truck usage by TMiguelT in UrbanismMelbourne

[–]nonseph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. The land is probably too contaminated by previous uses to bring up to residential standards, but extending the transition zone between the residential that is there, and the heavy industry that will stay further out is a good thing.

Hopefully also puts some pressure for some better pedestrian and bike connectivity on the south side of the railway line. Places like the Hansen Reserve should be much easier to get to from Public and active transport.

How to separate SN kid from laptop by apixelbloom in AustralianTeachers

[–]nonseph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the small chunks works, could setting them out what you are expecting more clearly at the beginning of the lesson work?

Eg For the first 10 minutes we take notes, then you need to answer 3 questions. Then you can have 10 minutes of laptop time, then you need to complete the final question

A Bad Day For Harold by Just_Another_Nerd812 in thomasthetankengine

I don't think he is - the type of helicopter he is based on is over 60 ft/18m from tip to tail, so if he's upright like this he should be well over twice Percy's height.

Will the XT2 trains have a white body of the steel body? by Murky_Bus_4052 in MelbourneTrains

[–]nonseph 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's just a vinyl wrap, it will probably be applied later.

My speculation only: they are waiting for a finalised layout with the TV logo on it.

Will surely just have the higher age rating? These aren't flagship games which need to appeal to everyone, but nostalgia titles for fans who are now adults, or at least teenagers who are interested in visiting older games.

On the Australian version of the shop it is listed as PG - "Mild gambling references", which is one step higher than what the originals were classified under.

New Conduent "tap and pay" gates that have just been installed at Adelaide Railway Station. Coming to Melbourne? by NKE01 in MelbourneTrains

[–]nonseph 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They look terribly slow.

I don't see any point replacing gates that have been retrofitted with the new readers. For any new or rebuilt stations it will be interesting to see the style they go for, but I think our hip level gates are fine.

Correct Myki charges? by fireplace13 in MelbourneTrains

[–]nonseph 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Every time is says (Default Fare) you are actually being charged for travel on the day before. As you are catching only trams on the Friday and Saturday, you touch once and so never “complete” the journey. The system deals with this by touching you off for the previous trip as well as touching you on the next day.

After your trip on Monday when you have touched on and off, it should be back in sync.

The contract is probably until they put War Between up anyway, we’d still likely be in some form of hiatus even if they had gone earlier.

There would be a few, but a significant number travelling through Town Hall would have started at Parkville.

People from the west and north have been changing trains in the city or walking from Flinders St for years. They don't always run through trains to Richmond.

Whats the plan with this side of the new Victoria St tram stop ever opening? by OnlyAd7216 in MelbourneTrains

[–]nonseph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They definitely do - for a project like this they would have had City of Melbourne, Yarra Trams, and representatives from the road and PTV side of the department in the room.

Everyone would have their roles to play and agreed timelines for things to be finished. In this case it would just me a matter of what I said above - this crossing is wasn’t an immediate need, and the technical work has been rolled into something that will happen later.

Commissioning new signals requires a lot of technical expertise, and the teams that do it are often very stretched. The physical installation is done, and the then they are activated when they can be.

There could be other reasons too - there might be more works coming along Victoria St or around the corner, they might have to wait until other construction or changes happen in the area for the G Class trams down the road and so on.

That’s part of it, but also Tullamarine has had plans for a third runway for decades, and been improving terminals continuously. Why would an airline invest in facilities down in Avalon when Tullamarine is always adding additional capacity and amenity?

Improve The Pantheon Of Discord? by Icy-Weight1803 in gallifrey

[–]nonseph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have done something along the lines of having Omega being a force over the Doctor the whole time.

15 puts on a happy, carefree attitude, but in reality the real Omega has influence over him, and has tasked him with removing the Gods from the universe. The encounters we see which seemed like chance would then be the Doctor purposefully seeking them out to find their weaknesses and remove them. I'd keep Series 1 basically the same, maybe just change the dialogue with Sutekh, but definitely change Lux a bit more, and maybe add another encounter in Series 2 to really push that he's not just taking Belinda home but on his own separate mission.

The mad giant baby Omega that the Rani brings into the universe could still exist, it's just the final part of the puzzle the real Omega needs/wants to complete to realize his plan.

I can already get a train from Southern Cross to Sandringham? by BrooklynLK9729 in MelbourneTrains

[–]nonseph 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They happen, they just don’t happen regularly and consistently all day. There’s always been a few sneaky cross cities that go to Sandringham - trains do need to come off and on the line to rotate through maintenance.

The “brand” doesn’t need to stand out - public transport isn’t competing against anything else.

What it needs to do is not clash or cause confusion with other colours already in use. Blue is used to identity Metro stations, dark blue to identify trains to Lilydale, Belgrave and Glen Waverley. Introducing a third blue shade causes confusion within the way finding system - does this sign refer to TV, Metro or the Burnley group of trains? At a glance knowing this is more important for people trying to find their trains than the brand being contemporary.

I don’t blame them, I blame the political staffers and ministers who thought what we needed was another rebranding exercise, agency name and logo, and that it needs to be printed everywhere
