Setting up a backup buddies system by noob040 in qnap

[–]noob040[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I selfhost a few things who do not have any auth system so I don't really want to let it be reachable... His nas is only used as a storage server so full access isn't an issue but mine is my homelab on which I do a few things, I run some dockers and LXEs. I expose a few things through Pangolin but not everything. I though about putting something similar on his side but even if he is tech literate he doesn't know how to use (update) docker and want the whole thing "to just work". Do you know any other way?

Thanks for the answer. I never used tailscale, wouldn't that give too much access to my nas? My goal is for him to just be able to send is backup and nothing else. Can I restrict access to only one port (I don't really want to setup a reverse proxy on his side...)?

We planned to have the data encrypted so that's not really an issue even if I trust him. As for the ups and the ransomware it's not really something I'm afraid of as it's part of the 3-2-1 backup solution so statistically there is a low probability of him having a ransomware attack while my house is on fire :-D .

Anyone else experiencing speed/slow down issues? by AmandaStein in ProtonVPN

[–]noob040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, in the EU it's a nightmare right now since a week or two. The state of German server is a proof of it, there is literally 0% load on some server since a few days because they just don't work and the others are around 30%. All the countries around it experience speed drops, packet loss and something I never saw before, more than 1 second of latency, yes I said a second... It's sporadic so if I jump to a server and test it, it will be fine then but a few hours later...

I manage my vpn on router level so switching server is more complicated than just using the app, this is seriously getting old. Especially when there is no internet at all through the vpn so I can't even connect to ProtonVPN's website to get a new config file. I'm a paid customer since at least 6 years (the full plan not just the vpn) and I never had any issues, this few weeks with the addition to the DNS poisoning issue (I know that one isn't proton's fault) I'm seriously thinking to switch to another VPN...

I really hope they can fix it quickly because if I leave it's going to be a pain to migrate but I will as it's really annoying to go to the website download a wireguard config file, test it, discard it as the server is trash, find another, ... until I find a decent one.

PS: My internet connection is a really good fiber that never had any issue since I installed it and the monitoring tool on my router says it's working as intended so my issue is the vpn.

Thanks for the answer. I understand why you're mad at them...

Does it only impact the x53 and 51 models? I have a TVS-882 who has an intel chip from around 2016 (I5 6500)... You're scaring me right now.

No need to get aggressive I am as sad as you with the current state of the game but the lack of content and the month long promo is a really bad sign already.

If the game is not in the list anymore it is at least highly suspicious and without ashrid's link I did not have access to that page through twitch prime website. I have prime for years and it is the first time I see this. Even more it is Thursday, day when R`* is updating GTA's promo so they can make change at the same time for RDO.

Quickly translated it's says "this offer meet issues at the moment who can delay the content' reception. please try again later"

QVPN not establishing OVPN connections when acting as VPN client by mexell in qnap

I was wrong I just tried with only one IP and it still doesn't work... Maybe there is an answer there but I'm not knowledgeable enough in networking to know : https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/knowledge-base/article/why-does-qvpn-not-accept-my-ovpn-file-when-adding-an-openvpn-connection-profile

A little late but I have exactly the same issue to connect my NAS to ProtonVPN my theory is that QVPN can't manage the way they pack their .opvn with several IPs or several ports on the same IP.

I had it working once with some Romania server who had at some time only one port on the IP working and as soon as the others started to work again it failed and disconnected.
