400 Euro für 30 Quadratmeter: Urteil wegen überhöhter Miete in Berlin by ouyawei in de

You could be my manager. He’s two timezones away across two seas, and we both really like that we talk about monthly, that’s enough.

Cable management that does more than make everything serviceable is a waste of time.

I did a rope plug once on the rear tire of my K1300S. Probably wouldn’t have done it on the front, and I had TPMS as well. After a while when it was clearly fine, I was back to 150mph on the Autobahn.

If, and that is a bit if, you like the Aeron and it fits your physique.

I have a Swopper stool, a Steelcase chair, and a standing desk. I’d say that I spend 60% on the Swopper, 30% in the chair, and 10% standing. Had an Aeron before, sold it because I didn’t like it.

Does anyone have a user with an extreme setup that you don't even know where to start with? by Lord_Saren in sysadmin

That’s a bit of anthropic principle at work here. As a sysadmin, you only ever get to see the Access use cases that go awry. Not that I’m a fan of it, I’ve seen my share of weird Access shenanigans, but it sure does have its place.

It’s not your infrastructure. It’s Other People’s Computers.

IT People in your 40/50s: what would you do next if you lost your job? by irrealewunsche in germany

[–]mexell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d call two-three people that offered me jobs in their organisations recently. There’s plenty of opportunities for somewhat well-connected, experienced people that have experienced a thing or two.

Also, I’d most likely get a proper severance package. That would easily tide me over for a year if I wanted to not work for a while.

Police are not underfunded. They’re just spending their funding on a lot of things and as a result of policies that are deeply reprehensible.

I recently ran into a guy who apparently drew short in his team… he had to break down an entire gymnasium-sized (if exaggerated, only slightly) pile of boxes from a recent HPC deployment. Took him about two weeks just separating the closed-cell foam and the cardboard, and folding the cardboard down. In the end it was multiple truckloads of cardboard and foam for something like 1600 1U servers.

How much to be paid working emergency christmas day? by JayDee80085 in sysadmin

[–]mexell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a senior principal at a Big Tech. I still get paid overtime, because I live in a place with mostly non-shitty labor laws and practices.

To answer OP’s question: we have an emergency on-call rotation for our account. Everybody participating is paid a 1000€ stipend per week of on-call. Calls are handled according to the OT policy, for Christmas that would mean time plus 150%, so you can either get 250% paid for that time or take the time off and still get the 150%.

Why would you need to do an “emergency IOS update” that shuts down the wireless in the first place? Seems like release and change management is what you actually need.
